Sound proofing W204

Hello guys,

I was seated in a friend's Lexus IS250 and I sort of realised how quiet the ride was.

Frankly I do enjoy some engine or road noise for driving experience, but just wondering if anyone has done some comprehensive work on sound-proofing your car?

Short of changing the tyres (my CSC3 tyres are on 15km), any reliable way to sound proof the car to better insulate against road and wind noise? And would that affect my insurance coverage in any way?

Would really appreciate any advice.

Cheers!

As far as I know, doesn't affect your insurance. Try 3M, freind did it before for his super $$$ ICE. Really works, but there is a limit to what can be improved. Eg, thickness of glass, NA vs supercharged/turbo engines....

Start with quieter tyres first. CSC3 aren't quiet, can try CSC5.

Are you willing to strip your car down? Few areas to target are; Firewall, door, floorpan, roof, tyre well.

I did soundproofing to my A class some years back when I was driving one. Did everything from wheel arch, floorboard, door....just short of firewall as it requires big time tearing up of the console...I would say the difference is negligible ( some isolation of road noise) but engine compartment is the one that give quite a fair bit of 'noise' ....

So if you are looking for aka Lexus soundproofing, might have to include firewall.

Just a thought...

totally agree.

When i was into SQ previously, doing the door was e best. Up e notches of my plain speakers.

Of course that cut out some traffic noise, not much.

Told my wife (a few cars back) that i wanna do soundproofing for my bdae.

She got me ear plugs as present.

A word of caution,

in the process of trying to reduce noise, u might end up with more plastic creaking.

Plastic clips on conti cars tend to be quite stiff. They either end up broken or loose when removing.

So usually when i do the doors, i'll order spare clips.

Well cool i have intention to do up the wheel arc as i always tent to hit 100 km/hr and more therefore reducing tire noise is impt for me. i wonder if our site sponsors does sound proofing for the wheel arcs.
