Warming up the car in the morning

Hi,

I have never warm up my previous cars (NA engine) but realized that my C180K drives better if I warm it up in the morning before drive off. It is just me or there are some truth to it?

Any experiences to share?

Cheers

:becky:actually its best for all engines to be warmed up b4 driving off after a cold night... and also thats the reason why yr intial warm up is abit louder... hahahah so why not? NA or turbo or supercharged all can warm up

if my c180k starts up with RPM higher than 1K (roars!!) then i will wait for it to settle back down about 700-900 before move off in morning... i notice if i engage to "D" gear before the RPM settles the engagement will be quite abrupt (i.e. clank cluck), seems like >1K RPM to about 800 takes about 60sec or so.

so far i believe our idling RPM (when on "D" gear) is 600. i realize this merc idling RPM is very stable and will not fluctuate from 600 when at traffic light for example.

just my experience with my merc

My CGI also performs better after a warm up...less jerky gearbox for the 1st 5min. Ever since i installed the remote start, i always warm up my car for 5min in my porch while I have my breakfast.

Its common knowledge that cars perform best at their ideal operating temperatures and hence you are right to say that your car drives better... There is no need to warm up the car before you drive... as modern technology allows you to drive without a warm up.. but having said that.. warming up the car to optimum operating temperature will give you a lovely drive...
