1st Experience with the Comand APS

Had some time this evening to try out some features of the Comand as described in the manual. My conclusions are as follows:

1. Managed to accurately enter my destination for Navi using Linguatronic. Managed to operate the radio with it too. Linguatronic is really cool. It's like having Siri in the car. :becky:

2. However, Navi routing algorithm seems questionable. I drove from my home to my parent's to test it out. The distance is about 9km away. On 3 occasions, at least, Navi asked me to make a turn instead of going straight which was the shorter route. I'm a bit sceptical about Navi's routing capabilities.

3. Pairing my iPhone 3GS using bluetooth was straight forward and no problems making calls and accessing my address book. However, SMS wasn't working. Apparently, only phones with Bluetooth MAP protocol can use the SMS feature. It would be a dream come true if handsfree SMS works. Let's hope Apple upgrades the IOS to support MAP soon.

4. Comand Online failed with the iPhone too. It's a disappointment indeed.

5. The iPod/iPhone integration was seamless. Just plug it in and it will play.

Not sure if you have the same experience too. Would like to hear from you if you managed to get things to work which didn't for me.

Do you mean you cannont go online surfing with iPhone? Other then that, every other function is working accordingly...

Is the map the latest?

How's the sound system? Heard it is solid... Is it really Harmen Kardon system?

Yes, cannot go online with iPhone. SMS not working also. Else, looks like everything else works as mentioned in the user manual. I've not touch Video yet but I don't think there should be problems since it's pretty standard stuff.

Can the iphone be mirrored on the display?

What do you mean mirrored? See all your apps on the Comand?

It doesn't work this way. It will display to you your service provider information and signal strength. It will also allow you to access your address book on your phone.

Yes, you can play DVDs using Comand only when the car is stationary. Not sure about the cam though.

When the car is stationary DVD will play!

By default, the DVD will have a "nag screen" to cover up your DVD video when the car speed >5km/hr just like below.

To overcome this "nag screen" so your son can watch his DVD videos when the car is on the move, U have to instal VIM aka Video In Motion.

With this modification, U can turn on/off the feature with the return key on your steering.

U can contact our site sponsors to quote you this mod.
