Most DSLRs nowadays are good enough for beginners.

Find one that feels good in your hand, and of cuz it must fit your budget as well.

Or can consider the brand which most of your friends are using, so you can share lenses and accessories. Have fun shopping!

Would recommend you look at min D5100 then buying the D3100.

It very much depends on what your wife need. Note that normally for women, they prefer lighter camera and easier to operate then bulky need to learn type of DSLR.

So better to prep her on the pro and cons of DSLR before taking the plunge.

Hi everybody I´ve bought the D3100 few days ago and I´m really excited about it... I would recommend it to all the people looking for an entry level nikon... 3100 already outdated... 3200 is the new version... actually if you buy 3100/3200... why not pay a little bit more buy the 5100.... more features...
