Extended Warranty Coverage from Republic Auto - Reprogramming Not Included?

Guest satch

Recommended Posts

My wife got a used C180K W203 from Republic Auto recently with a 1 year extended warranty coverage. After 1 month plus of driving, the Engine Check Light came on and I sent it to Pandan Loop Service Centre for checking. However, the service adviser mentioned that it is not due to mechanical problems and requires only reprogramming, which is chargeable around 120+. Had it been a mechanical problem that requires change of parts (under the warranty scope), it would be covered under warranty.

I really find it strange. Any bros have similar experience?

Thanks in advance for the guidance :)

Bro,

Perhaps u shld directly get back to ur sales agent from Republic Auto.

I believe they do have their in-house repair guy or they can send ur ride back to C&C under their name.

The 1 year warranty is to give customers a peace of mind that vehicles from Republic are in good condition and as such, buyers can be assured of quality.

Republic shld honour the repair or rectification cos their rides aint on the cheap side and unless u went ard modding ur ride for the past 1 month plus.

I oso tink Republic shld give ur ride a thorough check again cos CEL may not be a small issue.

And hor... No drive around, how to know got problems rite?

My 2 giam worth.

Cheers!!

Thanks bro, I am definitely going back to Republic and kick u!p a fuss...btw I was told that it's now not just reprogramming but oil leak and some problem with the engine hose costing up to $6k repair in total, NOT covered under extended warranty! Apparently All these in less than a month of driving.

Really disappointed with Republic Auto ... will post updates later

Bro,

Cool down..

Let's see if Republic Auto can live up to it's reputation n offer satisfactory after sales services.

Can understand its surely tulan n frustrating to have such issues on the ride but if u put urself in the agent shoes, will u try ur best to help if the customer comes to ur office armed in boxing gloves? :boxing:

try the soft touch 1st n see how.

Cannot work then it's time to :mmph: :mad2: :yell: :target: :fencing:

Cheers and good luck!!

Thanks bros for your valuable feedback...just went to c&c to pick up the car...now I am told the total cost of repair has jumped up to $8k minimum, which is attributed to 5 areas, all of which c&c deny as under warranty. This is really ridiculous as this vehicle was bought very recently few weeks ago and the engine check light came up only few weeks after driving, plus the car has Full servicing record done by c&c since day 1, with the last B+ servicing done few months back, furthermore, c&c did a full 33 point check before handing over to republic auto...how come these issues were not identified then? And these do not appear to be "overnight" problems as I was told. So who's to be accountable?

Really feel shortchanged here because buying the car from republic meant paying a premium for the piece of mind, but seem to have more headache now.

The folks at republic and c&c are following up on this case, hope to have a favorable reply from them :)

just curious the one year extended warranty is it pen it down or by verbally? Is it stated in the purchase contract & does it stated warranty by C&C or Republic auto? Republic auto extended warranty is effective immediately after the 3 years by C&C or the date when u take over the car from them? What's your W203 YOM?

Btw yr contract is with Republic auto not C&C so I doubt u can drag C&C for this warranty claims thingy. Go google the diff between warranty & guarantee.

Hope you resolve yr issue soonest. Do keep us updated.

Thanks bro :)

There is a separate warranty certificate issued by republic auto which details the inclusions and exclusions. Based on my reading, it should be covered under the warranty.

Republic auto warranty starts from the date of purchase of the used car from republic. Mine is a 2006 YOM (registered in 2007)

Hope that republic/c&c gives good news, don't want to blow this whole thing out f proportions (unless really necessary)

Please keep us posted of the development of your issue with Republic Auto. I am inclined to buy re-sale car from Republic, PPSL etc just to get the additional 1 year extended warranty. These re-sale division of the ADs are selling their cars much higher than the other car dealers in the market. I guess consumer pays a premium to buy from them. Your incident with them is not helping with the confidence to buy from them. Paying a premium to buy from them and not getting the "expected return" and aftersales service from them.

if republic dun honour their extended warranty.... u can go down this weekend to their sep fair and warn those to-be buyers to buy from republic,,,,

just an idea..... but somehow i got a feeling all these extended warranty from AD are just a marketing gimmick to sell theirs at a higher price...

but.... my w204 cgi also bought used from republic after a hearty bargain session even with the director.

so far it seems republic did some stuffs worth mentioning hahaha.

1st case. My ride was bought before her 1st service as millege was below 15k. hence after getting the car and drove it till ard 15k and booked my 1st service with cnc.

upon reaching cnc pandan... the se checked and told me... eh yr car service liao ma... he showed me records.... told me yr car was brought in by republic to let them do the 33 point check and they also did the 15k service for the car liao.... i was shocked... and the se proved to me that the in car computer has been reset to relfect the next service due in ard 30k.

i was shock that servicing has been done by republic hahaah

Yes mine too... it was 12k and they did the servicing and dunno how many pts check before putting it up for sale.

However, point to note on the extended warranty, all servicing must be carried out by See & See and not exceeding 21 days for service due date or 500km from service mileage or else it becomes void!

Guys...latest update:

It seems that NO-ONE wants to take full responsibility for this. Republic Auto pushes to C&C, C&C pushes to Insurance company that underwrote the extended warranty insurance. I can't believe that this is begining to seem like a nightmare experience with some ah-beng dealer. Well, if I'm dealing with Republic Auto, a subsidiary of C&C, part of the public listed Jardines C&C group, I am expecting more than this.

I obtained further clarification from C&C that the reason why it is not under the warranty scope - it is NOT because the problem is a "wear and tear" issue. Rather it is because although the damaged components (M.E., wire harness & oxygen sensor) are covered under the warranty per se, but the damage caused to these components are a result of damage done to a another component (not covered by warranty). This is really RIDICULOUS and totally defeats the purpose of having any extended warranty coverage in the first place. I then did a google and found out that this is a common problem in the earlier W203 models and certainly this must be something that C&C Singapore should be fully aware of. Isnt' it fair to this should be covered under the extended warranty?

Other things that really surprised me are:

a) Republic Auto proudly proclaim that 33 point check by C&C are done on all vehicles to give buyers a piece of mind. Why wasn't this issue picked up during the 33 point check and only identified by the owner few weeks after taking over the car? Surely an oil leakage is not something that happened overnight?

B) Republic says that this vehicle had Full servicing records at C&C, with the last B+ servicing done in Apr 2011. This issue went pass the comprehensive B+ servicing?

This matter is currently being handled at the junior management level, and I stressed that they need to get back to me ASAP because I do not want further issues to arise while waiting for their reply (which may escalate the repair costs). If still no response, I will escalate to senior management level or even to relevant authorities or media.

On their website, Republic Auto says:

Republic Auto maintains an uncompromising level of quality assurance for both the buyer and seller.

Do they live up to their words?

thanks bro, whatever, STOMP, Blog, FB, Twitter, I'll give it a try..lol

I have written an email to the COO of one of the telcos before and had a response within an hour of that email... so you're right, the power of Media :)

Will look out for the month end gathering...need to learn a lot from bros here, I've been buying new cars since day 1, it's my first experience buying used car...but unfortunately, a bad one. Well, I decided to go with Republic simply because of the perceived good reputation and the extended warranty, 33 point check etc, but still ....:shocked::shocked:

that's nice. but nope...mine didn't come with service, the mileage was around 67-78K when I got it. i guess it might be done probably there was "zero cost" since the servicing would be knocked off against the Service Credits that come with the new car? (Not sure)...

This is bad!!! I'm shock both of them didn't live up to their words. I will "bite" on Republic rather than C&C as I mentioned previously bcoz yr contract is with Republic. Hope you will resolve yr issue soonest. Seems like all second hand dealers are alike. All these while m thinking Republic is the only reputable & worth recommending frens to them. After tonite they are under my black book!!!

This is disgusting ....... RA still advertising every weekend on their promo with the 0.88% rebate. If I am in your position, I will consult a lawyer and see what are the options available.

Blow it big .... through the various Media available. The chinese - SinMin and Wan Pao will be interested in such "juicy news".
