A warm :welcome: to the forum.

Unfortunately we are not aware of any member here who drives a GL Class.

The GL is named as the X164 vs the ML W164.

They do share some similarity and the GL can be called a bigger ML.

It can be a "real off roader" like the ML if comes with the full off road package.

The new ML which will be named as W166 has been announced.

I guess a new GL will soon follows next year.

IMHO, It's one huge SUV which is also luxurious & comfortable.

A few weeks back I saw a GL450 @ CnC showroom & some 2 months back 1 in the MBC basement car park.

They sure are a rare sight in Singapore!

Have you gone for a test drive to get a feel of the ride?

Thanks for the welcome guys...

Haven't tested it but looks good on spec. With so many Q7 and X5, was wondering if there's something intrinsically wrong with the GL since you see so few of them:

It's nice to be different!:eyebrows:

1 of the reasons why I've chosen the ML over the X3, Touareg, RX350, XC60:becky:

Have retrofitted a gl450 last month ,, when for a test drive very good ..

So I've been doing more reserach...

Does anyone know if the GL450 with rear entertainment can be retrofitted to play iphone video in the rear?

Also, retrofitting command with a HK7 audio requires ditching the HK amp?

The RSE plays mpeg4 video.

If your GL is fitted with UCI, U might wanna consider upgrading to UCI-Plus which allows to play iPhone Video through your UCI.

There will also be AV input into the RSE which also allows for mpeg4 video.

IIRC, There's another HK amp to go with the Comand!

U opting for RSE to come with your ride or retrofit?

Haven't decided on getting new or used. Will prob get used cos the depn on a new one is worse than an S500. Also, avoids the 6-8 month wait time.

But used market also very limited, and still more expensive in annual depn terms relative to X5s and Q7s....

Then to top it all off, stock market very bad :tsk:

But heart still says GL cos Q7 too ugly, x5 3rd row for amputees only, range rover, cayenne all 5 seats only. Gosh, I even considered a Land Rover LR4 but it's only in diesel!!

But really glad I came across this forum. You guys have been most helpful :becky: Hope that one day I will join the Merc ranks!

Thought I'd give a quick update on my 1st week of ownership:

Mods

- tinted front windows

- HID conversion

- custom carpets

- 22x10.5, 305/40R22 Vossen wheels (on order)

- exhaust (brabus or custom supersprint, still thinking)

- paintjob (still consideration)

- fuel consumption 16l/100km

- top up 3/4 tank $177

Son loves rear entertainment with his Dinosaur train DVD

Carpool 6 of my friends to Retrolicious concert!!

Offroad at Changi with my dog - low range, locking diff, 4 inch airmatic lift rocks!!

This is all the car I will ever need...
