Year of Manufacture of E-class Mercs

Am I right to say if a car is purchased this year, it is likely to be manufactured last year. Hence a new car registered in 2011, year of manufacture will be 2010. Similarly, a car registered in 2010, then the year of manufacture is 2009?:becky:

not necessary...of course if you register your car during the 1st Qtr of the year, chances you may get those manufactured the year before...currently most Merc models are produce in Germany and plus shipping time & etc...they will take at least 2 ~ 3 before arriving at our shore...

YOM can be seen in your log paper. It can also be requested from the AD before purchase so that you'll know that your car is fresh out from the factory or been in warehouse for some time. Generally, if the YOM is 1yr or more, the sale price of the 'new' car is lowered to clear stock. I have seen VWs that were offered for sale 3 yrs old brand new by Cars&Cars many yrs ago going for a song.

Very interesting! Do you think 6 to 8 months is the norm? So if a car is purchased in July, then the YOM could be last year? :becky:

But due to the high COE since last year, I guess the car will be in the storage space of C&C for a longer period of time as sale will not be so brisk. Hence, the cars are likely to be more than 6 months?

C&C has a wait of about 4-5 months delivery of new cars sold, hence the newly shipped in cars don't even have a chance of seeing the warehouse. They go straight from the port to processing for delivery. The irony is even with high COE, merc is still selling like hotcakes. For some merc models that don't move readily like AMGs, SLs, SLKs, they take orders on indent basis. You won't see these cars in the warehouse.

But doesn't C&C need to do some inspection, paper work etc when the cars arrive on our shore? Hence, say, it takes 5 months for the delivery from Germany, it will take another month or so before it is delivered to the customers? Thats why when we go to C&C, we are given a list of the availability of the cars they have at hands? :becky:

Despite High COE - On the contrary CnC are still selling cars like hot cakes!

My W212 - Year of Manufacture Feb 2010 - Date of registration 27 May 2010

My ML 300 - Date of Manufacture 24th Feb 2011 - Date of Registration 20 Jul 2011 (longer distance from Alabama USA)

Both C&C and Performance Motors operate the same way -- discounts usually only offered for cars that they are trying to clear. So car with high stock level (and older YOM) tends to be sold with promotional package. My W211 bought in 2009 was YOM 2008.

When clearing stock Yes!

Recently I am told that they give the 5 spd W212 very good discount just before they started selling the 7G-Tronics version.

I wonder will the resale value of the car be lower due to the year of manufacture? Say a E-class Merc was registered in 2011 but manufactured in 2010 while another smilar model was registered in 2011 but manufactured in the same year?
