Good day to all,

I am new to this forum and planning to get myself a preowned 2005/06 E200.

Appreciate your advice on the car performance and common problems which I need to lookout during test drive.

In addition, may I know what what is the estimated wear & tear cost for the car of this age (assuming 100k-120k millage).

Many Thanks :becky:

Hi Papa_M, a warm welcome in...:welcome:

For a start you might wanna trace back on the previous threads on W211...you'll find some very useful info and experiences from other owners.

I did my homework that way before getting my rides...:becky:

All the best in your hunting...:peace:

Hi Bro Desmond,

I have read those threads but unable to relate much...so can I assume the usual replacement are the brake pad/disc, engine mounting, shocks?

Is 2-3k enough to replace the above?

I was in the same situation as you a few weeks back, and the advice that some of my friends gave me was if you want to have a peace of mind when purchasing the merc.. go to republic auto the authorised C&C 2nd hand dealer, but do expect to pay more.

if not, then make sure you test drive the car on the highway.. rev the engine look out for noise and make sure the engine can rev freely.. make sure aircon is cold.. go over hump no knocking noise.. and most importantly the gear box no jerky feel and no grinning noise. Best is also get friends/family members to seat at the back so as to help you gather info as well on the car while you test drive.

$$$ enough for an outside job like Starblack!

IMHO, If your budget allows - do consider a later 2006 E200K

The E200ML was replaced with the FL E200K in later part of 2006.

The E200K has improvements mad inside & outstide and 20hp more making the ride a less "sluggish".

For the E200ML or E200K - look for the avantgarde models rather than the Elegance model. It comes with better trimmings & extras.

Many thanks Bomby! Thats very useful guide for me.

Did you manage to get a good deal from Republic Auto? I have tried to deal with some owners but their asking price much higher than dealers!

Bro,

Apart from higher 'horse' & better trimmings, any other difference?

Avantgarde models have Bi-Xenons, LED tail lamps, very nice birdeyes maplewood trimmings, pointed front bumper, black grills instead of grey, nicer headlamps & the usual hundreds if not thousands of improvements made to the car technically unseen to the end user eyes during a MB face lift.

Last but not least will fetch a better resale value too!

Thanks bro kepiting!

Btw beside Republic Auto, I noted Think One Automobile listed quite a few E200K too with 2 years extended warranty. Any feedback on this company?

No idea about Think One Asutomobile or their background!

Other pre-loved MB players in the market will be Hin Lung(Ho Bee Grp) & BW

Kp left out the blue tinted glass... The pre FL suffers from the infamous SBC problem which you really want to avoid.

The E200 are relatively cheap to maintain in short. 1.8L fugal and low tax. I see them Taxi cars so spares are plenty and prices are very competitive. For example, I rebuild my whole front legs (shocks, ball joint, control arms, tie rods..etc) and replace my rear shocks for less than 2.5k. This is with a mixture of Original parts and OEM parts including labour & alignment. Car feels also brand new :) if it was a BMW, it would have costs 4 to 5K.

However, do not expect it to be as cheap as a Toyota corrolla parts. ownership is well protected with high OMV in the regions of 57K and plus body export, you are looking at almost 40K at scrap. so why not?

the avantgarde model also comes with 17inch MB sports rims instead of the usual 16inch rims and sits about 15mm lower.

Aerodynamically it just looks nicer to me. :)
