Ferrari 458 Spider to receive folding hard-top

The Ferrari 458 Spider is coming and our esteemed colleagues over at Piston Heads are reporting that the new variant will be coming with a folding hard-top roof.

According to the report, it seems Ferrari has solved problems related to a folding hard-top roof for the 458 (perhaps having learned a few tricks from the folding metal roof of the California model) - whereas the 458's open-top predecessor, the F430 Spider, came with a canvass top.

The transparent engine cover will have to go, though, but the 4.5 liter V8 remains the same.

The report can't say whether the roof will be made of metal or glass or how exactly it is configured for opening.

We'll know more soon enough, as the Ferrari 458 Spider is due for an unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

I have the privilege of being brief of the new 458 Spyder.

Yes hard top and slide into the rear within 14 secs flat. Super fast and will expose the twin hoods behind like batman and robin ride. Engine will still be expose but will be half covered when the hood is down.

Slightly detuned in performance as compared to the 458 coupe for safety considerations. Both the engine noise, tone and loudness will be the same to the driver whether top is up or down.

Price will be about $40k-$60k more than the current coupe of $920k without COE and before options. Already a long queue forming so you need to place a $100k deposit now if you are serious of buying one.:becky:

458 Italia Spider will be unveiled later this year with production and deliveries slated to start early in 2012

More details on the upcoming Ferrari 458 Italia Spider have been reported by our colleagues over at TeamSpeed.com.

The most recent report confirms that the 458 Italia Spider will, indeed, be getting a folding hard-top roof and will, for the first time in over a decade, feature a two-seat Ferrari Spider without a transparent engine cover. Power remains the same as in the 458 Italia coupe.

A source told Teamspeed that Ferrari conducted a showing of the 458 Spider to select group at its headquarters in Maranello last week which included two exemplars - one done in Rosso/Tan and another in Nero/Tan.

According to the report, the official unveiling will happen this fall with production commencing in the new year. European deliveries on the continent will begin in the first quarter of 2012 while UK delivers start later on in the third quarter. Shipments of the car to the United States will come after that.

No pricing details available yet.

Our gratitude goes out to TeamSpeed and their member Wild-Speed for these renderings.
