Should I change my ATF?

Hi guys,

All along I thought that W203 doesn't need to change ATF, as it has long life ATF. This is what I gather from my mechanic and searching through forums. But after one of the bros here mentioned that they have stopped using long lfe ATF, I'm in a dilemma...

My mileage is coming to 80kkm soon. Should I change my ATF? What other things are due for change? Like fuel filter?

Thanks guys!

The W211 also had 'life-time' ATF. My mechanic suggested that I should change it, along with the filter. Being doubtful of his $$$ intention, I consulted the Internet and the car manual. Turns out, there is a one-time-off required change at 60K. Stated right there in the manual. So I did it. Any real benefits? I am not sure. At least I have some peace of mind.

If you are going to change it, I strongly suggest you do it at a reputable workshop. Transmission is pretty pricey, care for it!

Agree on the need to change whatever oil which is required to lubricate any components in a car. Oil viscocity and its ability to keep to its optimum pressure deteriorates after time. The ATF fluid keeps the car's ability to use each gear correctly and to power the car. I think it's a small price to pay and to avoid more expensive problems later on.

As to a "long live ATF", I am not so sure, unless the manufacturer clearly states it, otherwise, don't think they'll rectify any faults later under warranty if problem arises, right?

Thanks guys, the reason why I'm holding back is because I read somewhere that there was adverse reaction to the transmission after he changed the ATF.

Should I be using only genuine Mercedes ATF? i tried buying from Tye Soon, but they ran out of stock.

"Adverse reaction"? Wow. Must investigate this claim. Then you better get yours changed with C&C (not that I promote them for being expensive) since your ride is only at its 80k KM which I assumed to still be under warranty.

Try Golden Link (63371134) or Gallop (6258 7203).

change the ATF.... and ask them to completely flush out the old atf and top up with mercedes benz approved ATF and change gaskets etc....also during atf change... transmission mounts are also checked for wear and tear and may need to be replaced if they are worn

80k kms? Woah. I change my ATF every 12months irregardless of what manufacturer claims how long the ATF can last. Paranoia coz I've had bad experience with a gearbox on my e36 many years back. Now, hit 12 months, just change it... Keeps the box healthy and running smooth.

If every 12 months means every 30kkm change for me. Hmm... might try doing that
