W204 1.6 Kompressor ECU Reflash

Hi All,

I just called MBM and they mentioned they are able to do ECU reflash for the W204 1.6 Kompressor in a day for about $XXXX

Reported gains of 20BHP and 18NM. Any W204 1.6 owners who have done that? They did mention that it will not affect warranty with C&C ?? Not too sure about it?

CNC will not know unless they plug in their computer ..this program changes your ECU parameters

very hard to detect....unless can tell you have fiddled with the ECU, you shd be ok...

What kind if flash are they referring to? I added a kleemabn k-box honestly I did not feel it made any difference. There is another place in woodlands that also flash ecu. There is no dyno so no really way to confirm.

In addition to the k-box, some members have also changed headers and possibly some exhaust system modifications in order to feel a significant difference. Do a forum search on "kleemann" and it should yield some results.

Pardon me for being frank. If the performance difference between c180 and c200 can be bridged by simply doing a ECU reflash, then I would think there is something wrong with Mercedes engine strategy.

What I understand is that the ECU is locked & not possible to remap thru the OBD port.

My experience with piggy back ECU with Dyno shown a dismay bhp increase on the higher engine RPM & losing some low end torque <3000 rpm which is the usual rpm during "normal driving"

Even 20 Hp if attainable as claimed is at crank!

How much left @ wheel?

Thanks Guys for the comments, will check in detail! Agree with Kepiting if the power increase is at the crank then it is not worth it. Gonna do more research for now.

hve u found out more in depth info fm MBM? I'm w my C180 kompressor too n maybe we can asked fr better discount shld u, me n old-driver were interested to hve our ride tuned!

I've been waitg fr such enhancement bt lately gettg nowhere w OBD as they dont tuned kompressor rides. :Cry:

currently, there is no ECU tuning via the obd port for this ECU.

tune in for more info for this kompressor

Although many refer to performance upgrade such as this to "ECU Reflash", do take note of the following which you may wish to clarify with the workshops:

1. An ECU Reflash is usually a modification of the programs in your ECU to unleash more power from your engine. We can discuss further details in future meetups

2. ECU Reflash can be achieved through the following:

....A. programming via your car's Diagnostic Port, or

....B. removing the ECU from your car and prying open the cover, breaking the sealant on your physical ECU, followed by soldering/taping/connecting onto the PCB board directly to program the Memory Chips in your ECU.

3. Some workshops will put a piggyback, which is connected to various sensors on your Merc and call that a ECU Reflash. This is strictly NOT a ECU Reflash, but is still a performance upgrade.

There are pros and cons in these various options, and in some situations, it could be the only method/option for a performance upgrade (at that point in time).

That being the case, can the 1.6 C180 Kompressor be tune to achieve higher bhp and torque? Most of the tuning houses I checked mentioned that they can do CGI models but for the 1.6 Kompressor, the gain is very little. I am actually looking at having the torque kicks in a lower rpm. Can it be custom tuned to achieve this?
