You can run but you can't hide. IF a site sponsor does sneaky things, they should be warned to all members. I was a victim before and you can be a victim of such practices.

IN THE first case of its kind, a former insurance claim advisor was fined $8,000 for inflating the cost of repairs done to a car involved in an accident in April 2009. Liew Hock Wei, 29, had pleaded guilty last week to trying to cheat NTUC Income Insurance Cooperative of $9,449.

Then, a district court heard that he had submitted a claim for $21,363 for costs of repairs to the car. It had been left in the car park of Bukit Batok Street 32 when another car hit it. The insurance firm appointed independent surveyor JP Knights to assess the repairs and discovered that the radiator and the rear tailgate had not been replaced as claimed by Liew.

During further investigations, the Malaysian admitted that 17 other parts had been repaired and not replaced. These included the front bonnet, aircon condenser and rear bumper. The total cost of all of these items he had initially claimed had been replaced added up to $9,440.

Liew, who was then working for motor workshop MBM Wheelpower told police that it was 'market practice' to inflate insurance claims.

Defence counsel Anand Nalachandran had confirmed that the money would have gone to the workshop and not to his client. Liew had committed the offence out of 'over-zealousness', the lawyer added.

In passing sentence, district judge Kessller Soh said while offences involving cheating insurance companies usually carried a jail sentence, in Liew's case a stiff fine would be an appropriate deterrence.

While we appreciate your concern and sharing of news on such incidents, there were certain personal comments which we felt were inappropriate. I am sure there is sufficient information in the news report to let the community make their own decision.

Nobody is hiding anything. Person responsible is no longer associated with MBM. Again, I'd let the community make the decision for themselves after reading the report.

Thank you.

Err...U understand English or do you think I'm some car workshop dealer? Want to meet me in person in my company so you know I am not in anyway related to car industry? If a company earns its money by legitimate ways, by all means. If a company supported such practices, we should be wary. BTW, my previous post did not have the photo. If you want to know why, kindly ask the moderator who edited my post. I just post the news and link.

If you are one of those few who are asking why your insurance premium is getting higher, please thank such workshop.

If you can edit my current post, you could have edited my previous post to make neccessary changes or drop me a PM and I can do the editing myself.

Person responsible is no longer associated with MBM does not mean it has stop such practices. I feel this is really a question of integrity.

PS: When you are victimise before, you can't think straight.

Just to share my personal experience ....

My car was hit when I stopped at a traffic light. I sent my car to the workshop for repair and asked for the cheapest cost to repair the car. No doubt it is no fault of mine, I am sure that I will win the case, I did not want to wait for the outcome of the investigation by the insurance company. I paid for the repair. A few weeks after collecting my car, the workshop called me and asked me to sign some documents. I went to the workshop and sign the approval from the insurance company. Guess what ? the claim was inflated by 10 times from the cost that I paid for the repair. Unforturnately, this is a common practice among some of the workshops in Singapore. I would like to stress, I am not saying all the workshops are doing this but some. In a way, this practice has resulted in increasing insurance premiums. I am paying more and more insurance year after year and my car is getting older and of course depreciating in it's value. The insurance companies needs to do more to prevent such incidents. They bo chap .... and transfer the cost to the consumers.

Yes. I agree it is not 1 company that does it but if there is no evidence, we cannot name any. In the eyes of law, accuse is just an accuse when not convicted by law.

When any company get exposed of such malicious practices, consumers should be alert, be wary and not patronised any companies who indulged in such practices, other companies may change their practices for fear of repercussion.

It may sound naive but that's what I did to my own company, changing all policies to ensure all our clients are treated fairly. It does shake up the serviced office industry abit. Many of our competitors follow suit after that. Bad practices keep occurring because there is no one to take the lead to revoluntionize the industry.

My company's core value happen to be Fairness, Respect, Integrity. We are not perfect, but we keep trying.

Fairness

We believe in every business deal, fairness is the essence of it. The word Fairness signifies everyone, including us, have the right to a fair deal. It is only through fairness, we gain trust and respect not only from our clients, as well as from our vendors and employees.

Integrity

A promise will be delivered timely even it has to exhaust our resources. We do not compromise the quality of our work by taking short cuts. Integrity is closely link to credibility. By having a team of management with high integrity and credibility, this is to ensure there are no conflicts of interest and to preserve the company's goodwill.

Respect

To be an employee of XXXXXXXXX, the prerequisite is to have self respect. We believe only by having self respect, we are able to carry out our duties no matter how insignificant the duty may be, with due respect.

Every of our employee understand the importance of RESPECT. There are 3 important aspects of respect we advocate.

Self Respect

Respect for our job

Respect for individual and their business

This is public news, published in the newspapers and also on the internet, so I see no reason to delete the thread even though they are our site sponsor. BTW, the same news is on other car forums also. So delete here also LL.

I think it was deleted because of my comments to boycott MBM as the moderator explains in the previous thread. Actually what the moderator could do is to delete only the comments and drop me a pm to inform me or just drop me a comment to delete my comments without deleting the news.

With due respect, Zjared, let's stop mulling over this topic of why delete my post.

I agree with g8crasher on taking the post offline due to the reason you just mentioned. It is not appropriate to pass judgement in a public forum base on a piece of news incident that has happened months ago.

Moderators reserve the right to take out any post deem inappropriate. So if there is any unhappiness, pm the mods and we shall resolve this.

There will be different personal views but we need some guidelines to operate this forum. I seek your understanding on this.

I'm not mulling over it, since he has already reinstate the post. I don't know which part of my message gave you a wrong idea. I was just explaining to NewC180 on what happen. I also commented on how I feel this issue can be better revolve. I accepted what I have wrote may be inappropriate that's why the moderator deleted my post as he explains in his previous post. I hope you understand I am not finding fault with any moderators. I also understand guildlines are important. The last thing I'd really want is to offend anyone here.

PS: Is there something wrong with the way I express myself that create the misunderstanding? If you would be kind enough to enlighten me, I would really appreciate and take note of it.

Thank you.

Hi Bro Zjared,

I think if there were misunderstanding, there were cleared up by Bro g8crasher explanation why your thread was removed & eventually re-instated.

Bro Cklass another of the forum Exco further explained what the moderators duties are.

I guess they initially doesn't want this thread to be posted & let other forumers make judgement based on the report in the media on our forum.

Not there MBM is our site sponsor, we want to protect "them"

However most of us here not just the forum Exco & moderators know MBM boss Kelvin well enough. And most of us felt that the Kelvin we know is not "that kind of person who do such unethical businesses".

Probably some of us felt that this forum is not the right platform to "make judgement on MBM" based just on the report in the media.

Probably after U registered your unhappiness about your thread being removed, g8crasher our forum owner reinstated your thread rather than to create "suspicion" that we are protecting MBM.

Please take note that the forum Exco & moderators do not enjoy special treatment if we send our rides there. I for one has not use them for quite some time with my new rides under AD warranty.

I like to reiterate that this thread & forum will not be used for making judgements on MBM or other business establishments based on the report in the presses.

If any forumers personally has encountered bad experience from workshops they frequented, they are still welcome to feedback to this forum but please leave the judgement to the readers. We do not encourage unsubstantiated comments about other business establishment that may lead our forum into legal problems.

This is still a free forum to tcss, to feedback, share, complaint, rant but we do want to maintain "some form of discipline"

I hope everyone can enjoy your stay with us.

I hope all of us can move on from here!

Have a great weekend to everyone!
