Why have the Sprint Booster when you can just switch from "C" to "S"?

Ok, I'm not negating the effects of the Sprint Booster but I'm just wondering if you still need this gadget when you can switch to "S" and the throttle becomes more responsive?!?

When changing to "S", the gear changes later at higher RPM than at "C" mode.

The SB simply amplifies the accelerator signal when U step on your accelerator pedal.

Meanwhile whether with SB or not, the gear changes will be made at the respective engine RPM in "S" or "C" Mode.

So, am I right to say that with the Sprint Booster, the RPM meter jumps faster regardless of whether in C or S mode???

Yes! & No!

Comparatively your right leg step lesser than usual to get the same rpm regardless of C or S mode.:becky:

So, am I right to say that for example, without SB, I depress 20% of the accelerator to achieve 3000rpm. With SB, I depress 10% of the accelerator to achieve the same 3000rpm. I would think the logic is as such, yes?

My question now is, with SB and by depressing only 10% of the accelerator, does the RPM needle reach 3000rpm faster than before?

Eeps you can read a whole lot of stuff about the SB. Point is to try it out to belive it ! At the end of the day all it does is fool your brain into thinking your car is less dragy/heavy/laggy when actually its just sending an amplified signal to the throttle.

But as they say the proof is in the pudding i.e you have to try it to belive it. I have it and no way am i ever taking it out ! Some don't like it but thats just personal preferance so yea instead of reading all bout it take a swing and try it out for youreself you might be pleasently surprised.

Yes!

I had SB on my W203, after a period of few months, I took it out!

Has to be extra light on my foot to get good FC.

On my previous FL W211, I left the SB there cos the W211 has to step more for the car to move from a stand still.

On my current W212, I dun think I need it!

Go MBM and try it.

I believe they allow U to try it & go a few rounds.

If U dun like it, take it out, if U like it, pay & go.

That was the previous arrangement!

After reading this and other threads on SB and MBM, I was inspired to buy a sprint booster (adjustable type) from MBM. IMO, the product is good, is what I expected, and I'm happy with it, but service quality was disappointing.

The mechanic who approached me didn't know much. He had to approach someone else to first ask if they had this product, and then again to ask what the price was. Never mind, perhaps its not his job to know.

But the sales person didn't bother to speak with me initially. In fact, I saw him answer the mechanic then turn his back on me and walk away. Finally, only when I asked the mechanic why the other guy couldn't speak directly with me did he finally approach me. Surely I wasn't intimidating... I was friendly throughout, but I felt insulted.

There was no offer to try first (but I didn't ask as well).

Then I find out that there is no discount for SG Merc members. I got the 'its already a good price' response when I said I thought forum members would have some benefit. Forumers only get a discount for servicing their cars at MBM, not on products such as sprint booster.

I purchased it anyway as I reckon its not far off what I expect the distributor would have charged (I'm familiar with SB having used it in my previous car. I had purchased it from the distributor, but I thought I'd give MBM a try).

Thereafter, the salesperson wasn't rude and service was acceptable, and installation was okay too.

IMO, $420 excl GST isn't an unreasonable price - but it isn't a bargain either. However, there should be greater transparency. After all, there shouldn't be anything wrong with posting the MSRP if it is the MSRP being charged. Or was I taken to the cleaners?

Anyone waiting in their customer lounge will know that the owners of MBM obviously want to give their customers a positive experience. But like many other local establishments, its the employees that may not be motivated and/or aren't adequately trained. The salesperson didn't mean to be rude and there was no malicious intent. But I didn't go home feeling good.

I always has a good impression of Boss Kelvin but my last visit there for a "simple purchase" left a little sour taste in my mouth!

I noticed S mode gives more reponse. Hence I conclude that C mode is for fuel efficiency.

Yup, I agree with you. I'm driving the last batch of w204 fm CnC. Tried using S, and it does gives a better pick up response fm stand-still. But C mode gives me better fuel economy.

S gives better response because the gearbox moves off from gear 1. In C mode the gearbox moves off in gear 2 for comfort

There are many ways to get good FC and when all things are equal "between C & S"

C will get U better FC over S cos in S, the gear change to D will come in at a higher RPM than C.

When I had my W203, I had it in S all the time cos the car is livelier to me when the gear changes come only at higher engine rpm.
