Black1996 E200 Merc (COE till may 2016)

Hi to all the brothers and sisters in this forum.

I am Ben, but not a mercedes owner yet.

Hopefully, would be one in the near future.

Saw an ad in SGcarmart by car dealer in Thomson Used car centre.

There is a black COE 1996 E200 for sale at $39,838, milage 80,000km.

COE till mar 2016. COE paid $10,583.

Just to check if any one here, had test drive the car?

Is the price overly expensive for around 5 years of use?

Also quite concern about the fuel cosumption of a 14 yrs old car.

What is the fuel consumption like?

Any problem with spare parts?

Any feedback or info on this car is most appreciated.

Thank you.

:hand:

Hi Ben.

Mileage likely clocked back to 80,000kms. Being a 2 owner car, I'd say the mileage should be at least 150-200,000kms for it's age. If you know someone in C&C, you can check the VIN against the servicing records to verify the last recorded mileage at the time of service.

It's more of a maroon colour instead of black.

This is the current market price due to high COE.

No problem with spare parts. Readily available. Non kompressor models maintenance is very reasonable. Consumption is dependent on how often you travel hwy/city.

Please refer to this recent thread for more information on the W210 E200 non kompressor model - http://www.sgmerc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18338&highlight=w210

good luck with the car hunt, man. It's not easy...

someone should shove the 'trimmed' mileage up the dealers' (or the previous owners') ass so that they learn their lesson. :becky:

btw, is it CnC policy NOT to reveal any service details or mileage info of a particular car that they'd sold to an individual before?

I am trying to get that info for two cars that I ve been eyeing in the market; and this customer service exec from CnC merc says that they do not reveal any info on the cars (service history, mileage , repairs etc.)

Kinda ironic; because revealing that info won't do any harm to the previous owner (he already sold it to the dealer, right?)... The second hand car dealer is not their sister company, republic auto.. So why the fuss?

maybe CnC thinks this way: with no background info available, a person buying a merc with lemony history, and ranting abt it in the car forums will be more 'helpful' to the merc and CnC image. :tsk:

OT a little.....

In regards to the mileage issue, if you think that car is a good catch, buy it but must get the dealer to state clearly on the sale agreement that the mileage on the car when they delivered to you....who know you might strike '4D'.......

Claimable on tempered speedometer can be @ $0.60 / KM adjusted.

But of cos is a very tiring issue.....

Car with a 14 year old of age and a few owneship would be more complicated on the claim issue.

The trick is to get it from Republic Auto. Hahahahaha. :becky: But yeah mate, I understand what your gripes are about. Agents for other marques practice the same thing.

Thank you g8crasher, 9339, and calp for your feedback.

I guess it not so simple afterall to get a cheap and good specimen.

Guess I need to continue looking.

Anybody interested to get a 1996 E200, maybe we can go shopping together.

Regards

Ben
