I m updating those brothers about my multi media interface

instals on the W212.

I had only the Garmin GPS GVN53, Reverse Camera from Alpine and a Digital TV Tuner all playing through the stock screen.

I didn't wanna hook up a DVD player or DVD changer cos my son will hijack it each time he takes a ride.

The mods will cost about $3K with installation and it include the following:-

a) Multi Media Interface suitable to your ride

B) Garmin GPS GVN53

c) DGS Digital TV Tuner

d) Reverse Camera

e) DVD Player/Changer - with USB input

With the above, there are still 2 more AV inputs for other hardwares

eg. carputer, a dock for iPod/iPhone(AV controls from iPhone/iPod only)

It's at least afull day job for the instals.

This mod is applicable to IIRC to all W204, W212 & most Mercs with

a LCD screen with auxilliary input eg. S Class. W221 & maybe W220.

This mod keep everything intact in the W212 i.e your CD, Radio &

iPod/usb/aux interface if any & switching of screens are done

on the oem stk switch with full controls.

The oem wirings are left intact too.

This morning we had a mini GTG @ West Coast Mac. with Bro Lightning & Bro Lee to see the mods.

Some screen shots of the stock screen on the W212.

Digital TV (TV5, TV8 & CNA)

Hi Angeline,

Are you the lady owner of the W203 at the last gtg?

If U are having the W203, then the answer is no unless

U have a LCD screen with auxialliary input like in the W204.

If your C200 is a W204, then it's a yes! U can!

Just check my media kit given to me when I bought my W212.

For my media 20, 3 cables:

1.) USB

2.) iPod/iphone/(iPad ??)

3.) Aux

Using 3) Aux which can take in Video and Audio L&R. With this you need to buy a TV Tuner ( DigitStream ) which will allow within its own unit auxillary like reverse camera ( auto switch when you reverse ), GPS map, DVD player etc

I need to check whether my current USB drive ( using 1.) ) can still be used as music still important to me in the car.

Hi DIY_Merc,

I thought the AUX cable provided is only for audio connection, such as sandisk mp3 player?

I might be wrong, but the manual didn't seem to mention video but only Audio connection?

I believe the 3 cables provided are all for audio only:

1) ipod cable - for control and music channelled from Ipod

2) USB cable - for any USB device with MP3 files within and can play through audio 20

3) AUX cable - 3.5mm connection for audio connection?

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Lee,

Yes! If U need to play your usb flash drive or hard drive, then U disconnect the aux cable & plug in your usb cable.

If U do not require TV and or DVD, then U do not need your aux cable to be connected for your GPS & Reverse Camera cos U do not need the sound. That means U plugged in your usb & use it & at the same time U still have GPS & Reverse Camera without the need to plug in the aux cable at all.

If U did not need the TV - I doubt U will not since U are the responsible source of it.....muhahahaha!:becky:

Hi Mark,

Yes! U are rite! The aux input is only for audio.

For this mod, the aux cable is use to input sound from the digital tv and or dvd player to the stk sound system.

For the video, the after market multi media interface has 3 AV inputs plus 1 RGB input & 1 more video input for reverse camera.

The RGB input will be used by the Garmin GPS GNV 53.

The stock video cable for the stock screen will be plugged into the multi media interface video input. At the same time, the multi media interface has a similar video output cable which will be than plug into the stock screen.

All this cable are proprietary to the car make and models and are not interchangeable between cars.

That's the reason, I cannot bring my previous interface from my Audi to the W212. However I can transfer the other hardwares from the Audi to my W212 i.e my DTV, Garmin GPS, Reverse Camera & DVD Player.

For more information about the Garmin GPS GNV 53

Pls click the link below

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=10573

It's a small gps black box size 4.7"W x 1.18"H x .4.6"D (12 x 3.0 x 11.7 cm) and comes with an external antenae cable.

Saw many fellow members addressing you as Uncle thus allow me to show my respect as well as to address you as Uncle.

Uncle, may I know how much does it costs for the Alpine Reverse Camera? Could I just purchase this and hook it up to my existing Audio20? Btw, I am driving the W204. Thank you.

Cheers! :)

Old must admit old mah!

The Alpine camera cost about $500 whereas U can get one as cheap as below $100.

For your W204, U do need the after market interface to send the video signal from your cam to your stock screen.

However U might wanna check with the shop if there's a need for the interface at all!

When U have the interface, then it opens up more options for U, like adding a garmin gps, dvd, dig tv, etc.

First of all, a command aps is not cheap as an option from C&C (>$10k)

Though some PI rides come with them.

If U wanna retrofit U need someone from overseas(UK, US, Aus) who are familar with it to do the installation cos locally including C&C cannot do it for U. Even if the instal is successful, hopefully it doesn't "give problem"

after the guy has left.

When U have command aps navigation, U are at the "mercy" of MB to get your "always outdated" & "expensive" map updates DVD.

For this mod, it keeps your stock Audi 20 intact, no wire cutting, etc.

With the Garmin GVN53, U can always use free maps from MalFreeMaps or donate once to Jerome Wee for unlimited map updates of SG/JHR.

I got it done at

AutoSpritze

Contact: Ah Boon 81633839 (working hours only)

115 Eunos Ave 3

Mine is not the 1st Merc they did.

They have done more than a dozen Mercs & Audis too.

Some of my hardwares are transferrred from my previous Audi A4.

BTW - Benzline also has a showroom there.

Hi, can i check with you is there any device that can help me to link up iphone to the existing audio system? I'm driving a W203. Does the workshop has the capability to link it up altogether?

This is awesome! I always thought we're shortchanged because of the standard Audio 20s that most W212s come with while in Europe or US they have Comand as standard!

Now this is a real clean and swell way to have GPS connectivity with an OEM look! Uncle, do you encounter any difficulty finding signal though? I had GPS installed in my car, finding signal takes about 10 minutes which is really long! It's not the same system though of course...

It also depend on your tinting too and GPS brand.

Garmin is known to hook on to satellites "faster" than others

I know of 1 Merc owner who has to put up with an external antenae

for his portable garmin to work cos of his windscreen tint.

On my previous A4 with premium top grade V-Kool, it took a few minutes

(<5 mins) and on the current E250 with Huber takes less than 3 min to lock on to the satellites.

Told U that I long yearned to play the stock system with all these goodies without Command.

I am happy that now I got what I always wanted esp. gps, dvd, rc, usb & iPod/iPhone with charging integration.

(Checking soon if I can replace the stock screen with the bigger Command IIRC 7" screen.

I believe some Dension models might be able to hook up your iPod/iPhone to your stk sound system and including Blue Tooth also if needed.

Heard it's not cheap >$1k and locally Pin Liang may able to do for U!

Heard 1 B Class owner successfully DIYed his instals with the dension Gateway 500.

Cheaper if U buy your own & self instals.

Check their sites for installation guides!
