The E280 for sure. The newer M272 V6 is much better than the V6 in the E240. The 7G Tronic in the E280 is also better than the 5 speed auto of the E240.

E280 M272 has no supercharge option from Kleemann, but E240 M112 okay.

Both creamy ride on standard.

Price is more attractive with E240.

Performance is obvious with E280 if you are one of those traffic light F1 driver. Otherwise, both have good power for everyday SG road.

Go for E280 if you can find one at good price, otherwise think about 7 series with short wheel base. tax is the same, status and space quite different.

Actually were also considering a 7 series but notice most 2005 FL model are 100K km done....

More or less had narrow down to E240...

2005 E240 got no BT phone function, can add on ? where can get ?

if you are not a die hard audio guy, kenwood series 7340 and the new 8036 both have good phone connection, so far, one that is consistently working with iphone... if you are using one. Basically, pull out the stupid audio 20 command and you have something that is of better sound quality, connectivity and convenience, and you can also play dvd, tv, reverse camera, ipod, most importantly, garmin gps on standard with postal code search. If you are audio guy, or plan future audio upgrade, going down the alphine road is more popular, but I don't think they have very updated software to deal with iphone and also gps, more expensive too... imho. I did mine at pin liang, zion road, and while you are at it, if you have iphone, get a iphone cradler with charger and link it to internal power, so you don't have this silly wire connecting to the cig. lighter thingy.

That is interesting. A noob question. Does the steering control for audio still works?

If you go down the aftermarket road, steering control is gone. The good news is, you wont miss it.

I tried to work with audio 20, then I realise that I am making things difficult for myself as the options are limited...

With BT, my problem was with iphone, not sure if you are using one. Basically, when iphone try to load up the recent call list to most BT control, it overloads it and crashes it. So you may want to turn off iphone contact list or recent call list sync. I had this problem with kenwood 7340 too, but they were more prompt with the software upgrade so it was fixed. However, I make a mental note not to upgrade the iphone firmware as and when it is available over itune as it may not be compatible with existing stuff.

I am not using a iphone, just a 'basic phone' so hopefully i can fix something to the audio20 to enable BT phone function.

Bro Randy,

I asked the same Q to C&C and the answer is No for the Audio 20.

I believe the later 2009 W211 comes with BT on Audio 20.

Another way which is imho quite costly (abt $600+) if it's work will be the Fiscon BT Basic

I got Fiscon BT Plus for my previous Q5 and successfully integrated it with the stk system i.e steering control and your dash meter (DIS). It works better than the stk BT with extra for A2DP audio streaming BT from phone

to stock audio system.

For your reading pleasure!

FISCON BASIC FOR MERCEDES

u can buy direct from Fiscon and their shipping charges is only EUR 15.00

The other way to get technical support is to get this guy nick Dr. Hanson from the VAGSG forum.

He organize mthly GB for products from Kufatec and this include Fiscon BT.

Kufatec products for Merc

He don't do installation but he helps to do the ECU coding for free.

Dr. Hannson GB

Installation is simple and it comes with instructions.

Fiscon BT Installation Manual & Details for Merc

Any ICE installer worth his salt or even MBM should able to do for U.

ya hor! U can buy and get MBM to instal & do coding for U man!:becky:
