Dear Bros,

Now when i accelerate i can feel that the car is jerky. Also when i was at the top speed of 90-100kmh, the car seem to jerk as if it was to go faster.

Havent get my mech to check....Just thought get some info from bros here.

Check spark plug connection again. Go back to your mechanics.

Also when u do floor yr pedal, look at yr rear mirror see if you can spot the color of your exhaust smoke (black or white).

Hijack the thread and side track a little okay..

My W124 occasionally gives a jerk between the 2nd and 3rd gear changes, giving me a slight lurch.

Any one knows what's the cause?

Need to adjust (fine tune) that cable. I dunno how to describe it. should be called the trottle cable? Can be seen easily when u open the bonnet.

I've had the problem of a momentary sputter when cruising, even at 100kmh on the North South Highway. Also can sputter when accelerating especially if eng temp is about 100. I've been told it's Ignition Control Unit which is near $2K. :tazzie: I'm currently trying to find a cheaper solution. BTW Trans has been rebuilt for slipping but did not affect the engine flutter/sputter.

Engine Misfiring? I dunno much about this model as i am new to W124. But with experience from other cars.. it maybe ignition timing problem. Causing misfiring at higher revs.... If ICU got problem then expensive liao..... but u already check spark plug and plug cables? I mean after this incident. Look at how your spark plug is now... it can tell u quite abit about engine condition. Wether ign timing ok, wether engine oil leaking from top side. stuff like that.

mine was gear box problem...

slipping...

:D :D :D

as mentioned...

i replaced my whole gear box...

now no more such problem!!

Bro Clarke

did you change to a 5speed box ?

does anyone know if it is possible to change to a 5 speeder on a W124 ??

my gearbox is starting to rattle badly

and the high final drive means that i am revving at 3000rpm when driving at 100kmh, compared to my jipun chia of 2200rpm

despite the good good insulation of the Benzer, the engine roar is simply driving me nuts ... not to mention the increased drinking efficiency as well

can some kind souls advise ??

Cheaper solution : get another set of spark plugs and also the cables and test again. Ask your mechanic to lend you. Else go to a workshop see if they can lend you the used Ignition Control unit to test. If problem goes off, then buy the control unit. I'm sure certain workshops will keep some merc parts.
