while driving today i decided to shift my steering wheel back towards the driver so i can have a more comfortable grip, but after i release the manual adjustment catch and shifted the wheel back, I cant seem to lock the catch anymore!

i press in and push hard, it doesn't seem to lock, had to stop by the side of the road with funng and try to push it in, also turn off and on the vehicle doesn't seem to help it.

pre-workshop-diagonstic is that something in the catch broke... i tried to get it locked back by braking hard on an empty road but to no avail...

sian one good workhorse breaking here and there like going to up lorry... looks like i have to send it to the workshop asap cuz now the wheel is going up down front back "like free like that"......

anyone can offer any solutions?

btw i'm driving a 4 years old C180 w203 so the steering wheel adjuster is manual not auto...

Go bsck to the workshop!

Imho

Never adjust the steering column while driving.

Adjust the steering in/out while the car is stationary!

From what i understand, the steering lock can only be LOCK at certain "gear ratio" and not  at any angle the driver choose.

Tried doing these.

1. Release the "lock"

2. Move the steering freely up, down , forward and aft.

3. While doing Step 2, try to lock the steering at the position you want. The trick is Never Force to lock it, but "feel" the lock and steering, lock into the "gear ratio".

I have same issue with my Honda previously and it work. Not sure if its work for Merc but can give it a try.

Good Luck.
