Hi all. Just checking for the W124. my car has stock speakers. I want to put in my 6.5" DB drive rear speakers but dont know of they would fit since it has to go into the stock location at the rear. Any idea if this can be done? dont really fancy cutting the rear parcel shelf or doors. Also, can the front take anything bigger than the stock 4.25"?

If I remember correctly, the W124 front stock location will take up to 4.25"

while the back stock locations may take up to 5.25".

For 6.5" U need to cut the rear parcel shelf.

In my previous W124, I used to run 6.5" in the kickpanels and 5.25" in the rear parcel shelf.

  • 8 months later...

have stock everything in my 280 SLC. been thinking of putting in some better audio, starting with a head unit, and if possible, change the speakers and put in sub and amp and crossovers...

oops - but seriously, i think the size has to be the same if you don't want to cut to accommodate a larger size.

Correct?

IMHO,

Too small a speaker i.e if it's like the W124 4 1/2" front speakers, they will be too small for "better quality sound. Not only that, U will have problem to find "high power" speakers. The smaller it's, the mid bass will be poorer when all things are equal. U might want the ICE installer to make speaker pods to accomodate bigger 6.5" front speakers. Then U can add on the tweeters in your front stk speakers location. Add a 12" subwoofer in a sealed box to finish off your instals.
