Goverment to grant 30 per cent road tax rebate

Thu, May 07, 2009

AsiaOne

The Government will grant a road tax rebate of 30 per cent for buses, goods vehicles, goods-cum-passenger vehicles and taxis for the period of one year from July 1 to June 30 2010.

This is in line with plans announced by the Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his FY2009 Budget Statement in January as part of the Government's relief measures for businesses during this economic downturn.

From May 10, owners of commercial vehicles, buses and taxis will be able to renew their road tax based on the revised rates (refer to Annexe A below).

Vehicle owners who have received road tax renewal notices or GIRO payment schedules prior to May 10, and renew their road tax on or after May 10 will pay according to the revised rates.

Revised rates will be reflected on the road tax renewal notices or GIRO payment schedules issued to affected vehicle owners.

The [email protected]RING portal (www.onemotoring.com.sg) which operates between 6am and midnight daily will also reflect the new road tax rates accordingly.

A new notice or GIRO payment schedule is not required for the road tax renewal.

PAID ROAD TAX BASED ON OLD RATES

There may be vehicle owners who have paid the road tax for their commercial vehicles, buses or taxis based on the old road tax rates.

In such cases, the excess amount paid would be indicated on the vehicle's next road tax renewal notice, and would automatically be used to offset the road tax payable at the next renewal.

TRANSFERRED VEHICLES

Vehicles that have been transferred before its next road tax renewal based on the old road tax rates will automatically have any excess road tax paid used to offset the total transfer fees payable.

The remaining road tax, including excess road tax paid, will be transferred with the vehicle to the new registered owner.

DE-REGISTERED VEHICLES

In cases when the vehicle has been de-registered, the remaining unused portion of the road tax and any excess road tax paid will be automatically refunded to the last registered owner of the vehicle.

Visit www.onemotoring.com.sg for the revised road tax rates for buses, commercial vehicles and taxis.
