Frying a mid bass

Just wanted to know if it is possible to fry a mid bass speaker by running a 20-20k glide tone over it.

I have a pair of Rainbow 6.5 X-Plain running as sub crossed at 40 & 200. Ran a glide tone over it and burnt PCB smell came out of it. Installer says my high volume probably vapourise the ferro liquid in the voice coil. My SPL meter showed abt 90+db

Can meh ? The flash point of the ferro liquid is 700 deg C.

Funny thing is I ran all my bassy music like modern talking and it sounded ok. the moment I hit the glide tone the burnt PCB smell comes right through...

Still cant believe...
