I have a C180, don't know if it works the same way as your B.

There are 2 trip meters. The first one auto reset itself after a lapse of about 4 hours. The 2nd one will only reset if you press the reset button.

I think your auto-reset trip meter should be the 2nd one. Go and try on your car and see.

Hi there,

There is usually 2 trip meters; one "From Start" and the other "Since Reset".

"From Start" will always reset by itself as it clocks everytime you start the car. However, this function will only reset itself if you had switched off your car for a long time, around 6hrs. If not, it will continue where it left off.

"Since Reset" will not restart unless you reset it yourself.

Don't use the "From Start" function to calculate consumption. It won't be very accurate. The "Since Reset" function will be a better guide. I usually reset that once a month. That will provide a more accurate figure as it will show an entire month's travel. The average consumption will be a better guide.

Of course there is also the standard trip meter which shows your distance travelled only. That is what you see on your instrument cluster in when you start the car. That the default screen upon start-up. That you can also reset. I use to reset that on a per fill-up basis. That will tell you your consumption per tank basis.

Cheers!
