New Here - help needed on Navigation System

Recommended Posts

Hi! Just ordered GLE Coupe, upgrading from ML400.

Any pointers on what is a good aftermarket Navigation system to fit in that works with Audio 20? Is Garmin Map Pilot available here?

I can't really figure out why there is no GPS in Audio 20 and Comand Online is insanely expensive and not a standard offering.

Anyway, any suggestion for a good installer for Navigation/GPS or better, if someone has any experience with CarPlay? Any pointer, advice - much appreciated.

Currently having ML400 to trade for GLE Coupe (hoping to have more enjoyable ride here). GLE 450 AMG Coupe would have been perfect but not in stock or available anytime soon.

Other cars now - BMW X1 (2015) and Mini Cooper (2013).

Previous cars - BMWs 740, 530, 525, X6, X5, Mondeo, Renault and Toyota Corolla with more than 30 years of driving experience.

Congrats on your new purchase!

You may want to consider retrofitting the Comand Online system into your car. Cost roughly 1/3 the asking price by C&C to get it factory fitted. However, the GLE is a very new car, and I believe you might be one of the first few in our market to get it. It might take a bit of time for the necessary parts to be available for a retrofit. Besides the navi function, Comand Online also has a larger screen, DVD player, built in HDD to store your music, and Apps. Downsides are, map is expensive to update ($400 + -) and updates are not frequent enough to keep up with our changing roads. (Map with MCE was only available one year after the road opened.)

You can install an integrated aftermarket GPS to your Audio 20 system, as you mentioned Garmin Map Pilot, Galactio, etc. It will be an even cheaper option as compared to retrofitting Comand. You might want to enquire with C&C first if they are able to install the Garmin Map Pilot for you since it's an original Merc item. The Garmin Map Pilot is listed as an option on their website: http://www.mercedes-benz.com.sg/content/singapore/mpc/mpc_singapore_website/enng/home_mpc/passengercars/home/new_cars/models/gle-class/gle_coupe/facts/comfort/multimedianavigation.html

Or, you can choose to retrofit both Comand Online and the integrated aftermarket GPS at the same time which is what I did:

Command Online

Galactio GPS

For the above options, you can consult our sponsors EleBest, ricric_lo, camber53 to enquire.

As for Car Play, Mercedes did announce it will only be first available in the 2016 A-Class. When it will officially be launched in our local market is anyone's guess.

Many thanks for your advice.

Will certainly look into your recommendations.

Read somewhere that new production after 8 Jan would be CarPlay-ready which is a real shame as the booked Coupe is already here, being prepared for delivery. Still, it is something that to be discussed with C&C as you have suggested.

Thanks again.
