B160 - faulty exhaust catalytic converter

hi all, any bros here faced this issue? engine light have being coming on for the pass 2 weeks, after checking, it was diagnose with the above problem. Car does not have warranty and was quoted 1.5k for repairs (as its wear and tear) from an external workshop. Wondering if this is the right rate. Wondering if the repairs can be delayed as the car is still responding and handling well thanks for all the advice
