W204 Gear/Exhaust Loud Vibration

Recommended Posts

This phenomenon of loud vibration coming either from gear or exhaust area occurs only in periods of heavy rain when going through large puddles of water. Been experiencing it all the time during torrential downpours in Singapore lately. This morning was no exception. It also happens at very low gear and the vibration/sound increases whenever the accelerate pedal is pushed in further. I have to really go slow on the pedal as it feels soo rough as if the engine is going to die. My wife also feels it and even commented that it felt like the exhaust pipe was loose and coming off or dragging along the road. No check engine light each time that happens and car drives perfectly fine if no standing puddles of water present. I googled and apparently quite common "problem" with many interesting theories but no definite explanation Some even mentioned the tires causing water splash to the wells. Wondering if you guys experince this on your ride? Thanks

If you see an amber light flickering on the instrument cluster the next time you experience the same "loud vibration"

That's your car ESP (Electronic Stability Program) in action, saving your car from skidding due to lost of traction.
