turbo cartridge replacement

Usually this is for tunners to custom spec their turbos by introducing hybrid impellers for faster spool over standard sized turbos. Such as HKS creates their own version of T28 Geratt turbos. Not an easy task for an individual to fiddle the mix and match.

There are many things a car nut can do before venturing to turbo swops,...it is not the case of 'bigger' the 'better', but rather more of a good match derives more driving pleasure.

Usually improvements are for street application where faster response / less turbo lag. Thirty years ago when SAAB 900 turbo rule our streets,..that was big deal as you could pick your teeth during turbo lag. Today, the trend is to have smaller, faster spooling turbo combined with ECU tuned to almost no lag and big bang when the turbo comes on.

So there is more gain from ECU tuning than hardware changes if you wan to tinkle your ride.

Thx Odessus. Just my 2 cents worth of experience on having owned 2 turbo charged cars over more than 10 yrs period. Decided to stick to NAs after growing older but never thought Mercs started offering turbo charged cars now. I have been there, done it ( tuned a SR20DET based S15 from new into a 480hp & 600Nm hot import by Garage R which I stopped counting $ when they day the modifying expenses went pass SGD$120k,....had all the fun before LTA got so serious in naping modifications). I only want a nice & comfortable car now,..so my ride is now a normally aspirated SL350 (R230) :)
