Not sure about C-class, but for E-class W212, a bit of jerking when cold start is "normal"… especially when speed is below 20km/h. When engine is warmed up to operating temperature, it will not jerk.

"normal" is because I've seen it mention a lot of times at various sites, even asked CnC engineers… since noone can "fix" it, I take it that it is "normal" :D.

If this is the jerking you are experiencing, it will not go away with ATF change… I know because I did that already :).

Thanks bro. I went over to MB auto to seek eric advice this afternoon, as my office is near there.

He told me this is common in c n e class. Especially if u sudden accelerate at low speed.

Thanks for the confirmation guys.

What I usually do nowadays is to warm up for 1-2 mins before driving off.

If no time to warm up properly, then upon drive off I will try to accelerate up and induce gear change (1 to 2 to 3) within the first km.

After the above, my car will be super smooth. :)

I think I got really hard jerk twice in my 6 months of driving the W212. Where it felt like I suddenly jam the brakes (but I didn't).

It was definitely not due to cold start as described previously. I suspect it was due to me constantly switching between pressing accelerator and brake due to very slow traffic.

Do you get something similar?

Yes similar but I don't recall start stopping,  occasionally it just first like I ram the gear into 1st gear for hard engine brake.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi mates!,

For my own encounter, my B-Class and C -Class has the same issue too. What I did was to give it some extra warm up time in the morning (average3 minutes?). I noticed when the engine get a little warmer the gear shifts a little smoother.

Also a point to note is from my personal experience, using C gear is a lot safer than S gear for city driving, though CNC would say "there is no effect rather personal preference". C Gear will reduce the gear shifts but a little laggy, S Gear gives you the punch you need for speed but the gear presures up and down too often resulting to wear and tear.

Hope it helps...

I had the same issue for lower gear for about a few months...  Went to a workshop and they mentioned try changing the ATF oil.

Dropped by Surpass Auto for the ATF oil last week and got it at S$11/bottle.  Advised by Mr Lim to buy 5 bottles.  Went back and changed the oil myself...

Wow...!  No more jerky when it comes to lower gear or its morning sickness...!  Very simple job in less than 30 minutes but a total great experience driving my car again.

By the way, I did not do a oil leak from the bottom.  I bought a oil pump to siphoned the oil out and pour in the new oil.

Job difficulties - 2 stars

Time - Less than 30 minutes

Satisfactory Level - Priceless

Maybe we should arrange for a meet up for those who wants to do a ATF oil change.  Haha... :D :D :D

Meet, greet and educational meet up.

But then, many bros here are loaded with $$$$$$ that they might not even wants to do that...
