I've been missing the boy racer hatchback type vehicle for some time now. I guess punting the trusty '91 W124 8V around town seems a little too pedestrian for my liking although I am a good ten plus years away from the projected male mid life crisis buy-a-sportscar phase.

I've been lusting after the Golf GTi for awhile now.... then along comes the little twincharged brother - the Golf GT. Hmmm... super+turbo charged combined to squeeze 170ps from the 1.4 litre block. Wow. Talk about small and dynamic packages!

Performance isn't much to shout about at 8.2s for the century dash. Fuel consumption is a miserly 5.9l/100km (factory figures).... but I'm sure a quick upgrade of the turbocharger will ensure torque steering performance hehehe..

Question is... would you pick an R170/171 over the GT and why ?
