Hi expert,

Just collected the car on sat and when gear put to d or r, there will be a loud roaring sound and the engine vibrates quite badly. Was advised by the dealer to drive to a workshop in sin ming specialise in gearbox to resolve. The guy said most prob is the engine/gearbox mounting worn. Can it be the reason? The car was just given a gearbox overhaul before I collected the car.

Yes, engine and gearbox mounting does affect the vibration.

You should have demanded he solve the issue before taking delivery of the car... For u might end up paying for it. .

Yup, I agree. Didn't test drive before the purchase?

Yup,din even test drive. Only did a visual inspection of the car to make sure no major accident front and rear. On collection date, took car and drove off as going to be late for kids lesson. Dunno what was on my mind then. Sent car down to Sin ming this morning and realised even more issue. Car reluctant to move over hump and slope in reverse gear even when accelerator was floored. Was told that they just overhaul the gearbox and will redo again as it was a rush job before I collected the car last week. Will also recommend to the dealer to change the mountings as the vibration is really bad. Though charge back to dealer, car have to be in the workshop for 2-3 days. Managed to fight for a courtesy car but feeling depress...

Wow, I think my wife spends more time selecting clothes than you buy car  :startle: .

What's your car mileage? Usually if mounting problem, it should vibrate no matter what, rather than just when you move the gears.

Anyway, I suggest you return the car and select another one if you can. No point repairing a dud.

Dealer agreed to full overhaul the gearbox with warranty 1 yr and replace all the mountings. Let's see how it goes, hopefully it should be fine. I'm ok with minor fault, but engine n gearbox n ac is definitely a big issue. They t loan me a 5 series as the repair will take 2-3 days.

That's good service! Good to see responsible dealers.

At least your dealer is honest and honoured the repair. My dealer gave me hell lot of problems and attitude for my FOB key. Makes me feels like burning their car shop down!! Anyway, painful and expensive lesson learnt...!

frankly, the 5 series pick up from stand still is much better. merc wise needs to wait till abt 2k rpm for the charger to kick in. both cars have their merits, but I like merc more coz at least I can adjust the audio and a/c functions easily via button; 5 series command I'm totally clueless.

Finally collected the ride today. Was told that the torque convertor kaput. Now the car when put to d or r, no more weird sound n vibrations. It drives smoothly; juz like a merc. Happy like a bird!
