Paint chip repair?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I would like to find out from the wise ones here… where do I go to repair paint chip such as the one in the picture? Repair as in fill the chip and polish it properly. I can of course buy touch up paint and paint over, but out of curiosity want to know whether there are specialist who does chip repairs?

It is on my left back door. Some a-hole open his/her car door so hard that it chip the paint off mine.  :growl:

In addition to this one, I have a few more chips left by previous owner which were just painted over without proper "levelling" of the paint.

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi air_magic, I can't seem to find specialist chip repair workshop. Such chip as the one I show above won't result in rust as the bare metal isn't expose yet.

So what I did was I went to C n C to buy the paint ($10) and did the touch up myself. There are a few good videos on youtube which I referred to.

The result is below. Not as good as I would like, but I don't have the necessary tools to level it with the original paint (that needs "wet sanding" and polishing tools). The good thing is that I managed to paint over all the chips my car has and they are quite unnoticable  from beyond 1 feet (except to OCD people like me :D).

Before putting on the paint, you could have put some putty on it so that the "hole" is covered.

Then use the paint to touchup.

That is what I did many years ago on my previous car....

Spoon feeding teaches you nothing....but the shape of the spoon...

That's true, but I don't know what putty to buy. Hai ya, how come never recommend earlier? :D

Most youtube videos recommend put layers of clear coat on top of the paint, then wet sand and polish. But the clear coat that I got seem to melt the paint, so in the end gave up and just leave the paint as it is.
