Qn - Thinking to upgrade to 17" Vossen CV3 and tyres

Recommended Posts

Dear all

Went to a tyre shop yesterday and fell in love with this rim - Vossen CV3 replica. See attached.

Went to c n c website and for 17" (for b class, w246) the rim specs are 17x7.5J, ET52.5 and tyre profile is 225/45/17.

However, this replica has offset of 45. According to mechanic, after install the rims, the rims will protrude about 1.5 cm. Is this ok and do they pose any drivability and structural issues?

Next, as my ride does not have spare tyre. I intend to get run flat tyres for the 17" rims. The mechanic recommended me two brands and models, they are:

1) Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT Runflat (made in Europe), and

2) Pirelli P7 Cinturato RFT Runflat (made in Europe).

Are these tyres good enough for local use? And between them, which one is better?

Appreciate all help and comments.

If this goes through, I would like to sell my stock 16" rims and run flat tyres (less than 1900km) Anyone interested?

Thanks in adv.

17 to 17 -> no point.

If you want to change, upgrade to a bigger wheel.

If the offset is wrong, then pls no no.  If the workshop is professional, he shouldn't even say YES.

He's upgrading his original 16" to 17". U r right about the offset....personally, I wouldn't like the wheels to protrude at all. 1.5 cm is quite a lot though it will not affect handling characteristic at all. Esthetic wise...a bit too Beng aggressive.

And Vossen CV3 is minimum 20".....

U have a good point here .....which makes it shouts out louder that its a replica.

Bui...he's referring to replica, so it's possible to have 17"

Felt that having thick tires might not look good on CV3

yeah..... It's a replica.... But a 17" replica? And Vossen? Now everybody in the world knows its a replica!!!!

I think it's ok. I like the rims and most imptly it's easy to clean. My current rims are always covered my brake dust.

18 " and above for this rim is beng. The pic is an 18". I'm equally concern about protruding but the shop says it's still flush with the car. Not sure how true is this.

Can you share with us what do you mean by having thick tyres might not look good on cv3?

I think there's 19".

I recall some news said "BBS is going after replica maker..."

Is replica has any implication on safety or handling ? Especially on heavier vehicles made/model, such as MB ?

Replica --> pirated, copy, copycat....

Dont think a pirated DVD has similar quality as an original one!

Paying so much for a 3 pointed star, it's not wise to compromise on safety and handling.

Stock rocks!! Rather stay stock than to put my life at risk.

Point noted. DVD example is not appropriate in this context. My pointed star is about the same price as a entry Nissan teana. Replica doesn't mean compromising safety and handling. Rims are tested to meet requirements and many of us can attest that these replicas are safe. I'm upsizing to a bigger rim. If it meets the specs, it should be safe. Bigger rims and wider tyres will mean better handling but FC will go up.
