Respray bumper

Recommended Posts

It finally happened again, and I am glad it happen a week later.

Within 3 hours of touch down, I slowly backed into a low wall with rough surface, scratching the bumper (~1 foot length total). Some of the scratches are quite deep, so it would need to sand off this area, smoothen with filler and respray ~1-4 - 1/3 of the bumper, without dismantling.

Could any bro or sis recommend a reliable workshop? Any advice on downtime (2 days? or same day?) and cost range ($500?) would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

Standard downtime should be overnight depending on the severity of your damage. Better to give more time for the workshop to do a good job. Paint needs time to cure too.

Thanks for sharing.

I had my car front bumper re-sprayed about 4-5 years back and took 4 days. I wanted to check if paint technology or re-spraying techniques have changed since then.

Will keep an open mind to time needed for repairs and for curing

Could you share the workshop name? Would like to check them out as well. Please PM me if not convenient to share in the forum - Thanks!

I drive ~100km/day when not travelling, so shorter downtime is an advantage to me

I had my bumper resprayed last year, downtime was a day. Dropped off my car in the morning, collected it in the evening.

Actually watch them do it before.... 2 hours-3hrs  job the rest is waiting for paint to dry

Thanks all. Makes me wonder why it took 4 days last time. I could not remember if it was an accident claim. If it was, it would make perfect sense

If any bros have any other workshop to recommend, I would appreciate it. I am planning to try a new workshop this time

Check for dents....Any dent larger than a 50 cent coin will take much longer time

Thanks Odessus and thaiedwin.

Confirm no dent on the sheet metal. I stopped only after my bumper contacted the rough wall, which was on my right side. I was distracted by a guard who was waving me to stop/slow down then. The alignment of bumper was not affected. So it should be a straight forward sand, fill and re-spray.

Many thanks to the help. I will check out the workshops this week before I fly again
