Some questions on my 06 W211 E240

Hi all,

Just gotten my 06 W211 E240 a week ago.  After driving for a week, I've the some questions on the car and appreciate any advise.

1.  Noticed that the pick up is slow.  The RPM will hit above 2k before the car move off from stand still.  Is this common for E240 of the same year?

2.  The engine sound seems to be loud, compare to my wife's E60 523i during pick up and cruising.  This was from my wife, which I'm surprised that she noticed it.

3.  when the car goes over hump, there are noise from the front of the car.  sounds like 'tok tok'.  We sent the car for STA evaluation and the report state that the front bush arms are worn.  The workshop replaced both the front bush arms but the sound is still there.  Any advise on the problem?

4.  when the brake is stepped 2-4 times, there will be some sound produced by the brake motor.  according to the mechanic, they said that this is common for the W211 models of the same year as they are operating on hydraulic brake.  Thus the sound, but the brake is the most effective till date.

5.  The CDC seems to take in CDs for its own consumption.  refuse to play and eject.  What can we do to make the CDC functional.  Noticed there are some comments on these from the other merc forums.  like remove the #6 fuse for a few minutes, update the firmware from agent, etc.  anyone has this issue and manage to resolve it?

6.  There is 1 hinge on each side of the boot lid.  Any idea what is it for?

TIA for the reply.

Regards,

Josh

IIRC The E240 is a NA 2.6L v6 engine.

Unlike TC or SC, the car do not "surge" unless you press hard on the gas pedal.

I have sat many times in a E240 and it's a very quiet engine.

IMHO quieter than the usual SC or TC cars like the SC 1.8L W211 E200ML or E200K.

U might wanna consider changing your CDC with an used one from the scrap yard like Propel or upgrade it to the COMAND NTG 2.5 from our site sponsor camber53 aka Gregory or ricricloo aka Ricky.

COMAND give BT, DVD, GPS with Voice Commands! (The voice button on your steering wheel will work)

For your brakes & engine noise - go to a workshop to check them out!

Hinges? Put a pic here!

Welcome to the forum!

Cheers

hi bro... just my 2-cents worth...

my dad's is the w211 2006 E200... i think i can help you with some advise:

  1. for ours, same issue as yours. the pick up from the standstill will need some push from the accelerator, read from other seniors here says that with the help of the PIGGYBACk, should be able to solve this.

2. i agreed with this point, as i am driving E60 as well,  the engine is abit noisy, however theres once, we tot is noisy, but its due to a leak in the steering rack, once we top up the steering fluid the sound was totally bearable already.

3. we got this same problem. STA also wrote the sae report for us. after checks from my mechanic,  is actually the link rods plus the shock absorber gone liao...tok tok sound is from the shock absorber... btw.. just to inform you, once the front bush gone..means you will soon face the same problem as wat we are facing now... steering RACk gone...

4. did you nice some lines on the brake disc? i.e  a line after the brake pad.... the sound might be cause by uneven braking from the hydraulic brakes,.,.. this will need a change of the whole brake disc.. this is our next up due to change thing....

5. this i i never encounter before....

thanks.

thanks for the reply.  Appreciate it.

Had sent the car to the workshop in Sin Ming for check. Managed to settle most of the problem.  Now noticed new problems...

1.  There is strong fuel smell in the car.  read from the sgmerc and other forum that this is common for W211 and most forum suggest to replace the fuel tank system.  Are there any other ways to solve the problem?

2.  My wife noticed yesterday that there are 'teg teg teg' sound coming from the car while traveling.  She noticed this when the windows are wind down.  She said that the noise insulation is quite good that she didn't noticed the sound.

We got the car on 21 Jan from Commonwealth Car Mart.  Did we get a lemon car and should we get the used car company to rectified the these faults?

Thanks,

Josh

hi bro,

from my experience... should get the dealer back... go to his workshop, to rectify the problems. cos they should be the one doing... if not, will be quite a high cost.. you are lucky, still within the 6 months period... as for us, as its person to person deal..therefore we dun have such 6 months lemon law thingy... if you are in sin ming, you can drop by the workshop that my dad send to for a 2nd opinion if you wan... he is at blk C..do sms me if you need the full name...91722585 ah wil..

for the fuel tank smell... we did 2 simple step and the smell is now bearable...

 1. bought a new fuel cap... the rubber black colour cap that you open to pump in petrol...

2. bought a 2$ charcoal dehumidefier from daiso....place in the car...

Bro,

Thanks for the contact.  for the fuel tank smell, had read from the forum that there are fuel collected at the rear seat.  if that is true, won't it be risky to just place a charcoal dehumidifier to contain the smell?

My car smells heavily of fuel 3 months ago, Went to change the plastic fuel tank which crack ... cost me $800+ for your CD changer I have spare if you want i can pass to u, no point keeping it.  Engine sound loud could be the engine mounting worn out. After I change mine 2-3 years ago.feels like new car.

BTW I am driving 06 W211 E200

Sorry cannot remember liao few years back. should be +-$200-$300 depending on how many u change . there should be 3 mounting

Is it cheaper to buy the engine mount from stockist and have the workshop replace or just let the workshop settle everything?

  • 1 month later...

Dear all, managed to solve most of the issue with my e240. Now noticed that there is high pitch sound in the cabin when traveling. Checked with workshop and they said that it is due to the rear axle bearing and quoted about $1500 and 4 days to replace them. Any advise whether the price is reasonable to replace the bearings?

Hi josh, seems like you're having several problems with your e240. Will advise that you bring it back to the dealer to have them to rectify it. Try to get it done within your lemon period or the warranty period they offered. Getting it fixed at your own cost will not be fair for you i feel.
