Unknown problem (Need experts advice)

Recommended Posts

Here is a summary of my problem.

Modifications for a year with no probs.
BMC drop-in(But it cracked so i changed to K&N drop-in)

Straight thru Exos

Recent mods, last week, decat the mid catalic converter.
*extractor n first cat is stock, untouched.

Went to Benzline to get the MKB module. First problem, engine check light came on with loss of power, what seems to be that the vehicle went into limp mode.

Went to reset Ecu w the diagnostic tool to clear the error code"boost pressure".
15 mins of driving and reappear. Change a diff module to retry same error.

Now disconnected the module but problem still persist.

Now it seems that my exhaust system is chocked up front the front cat which i've nv touched before.

Anyone encountered a similar prob?

I'm no pro but it sounds to me like your exhaust back pressure is too low to a point where it affects your engine. Usually happens when your engine capacity is too low to effectively make use of that extra flow capacity (velocity suffers) from your straight through decat exhaust.

The below are the error readings. No error report on O2 sensor.

This error and loss of power did not happen on my decat or straight flow muffler, in fact i've been using my muffler for a year..

It only happened after the MKB module.. I'm surprised that no one else has this issue..

Also weirdly, after removing the MKB module, my boost as reflected in the pic below is still high at 1.3 bar!

It's not suppose to happen after removing it, but some how it feels as if the ECU adapted MKB's module and refuse to revert back to its stock setting..

Piggyback is plug and play, it will not overwrite your stock ECU. If you plug out the system and the problem still persist, it shouldn't be caused by it. I'm sure your installer would have also told you that. Your ECU should have "learnt" from the piggyback when its plugged in, give it a day or twos driving and performance will revert back to normal.

Send your car for a diagnostic check and you'll know straight away the fault. I doubt there's much any one here can help you with regards to pin pointing the fault of your car.

Thanks bro, problem is, at the diagnostic, it states boost pressure error. It immd only occured after the MKB module was installed and continued to persist after removing it.. I'm puzzled, drive for 3-4 days lieu, still same issue.

Not sure if you faced the same problem as me previously - car went into limp mode and loss of power.

I do not know the actual term for the faulty device but it was described to me as the air-flap actuator to the supercharger that has failed (this is a similar device to the throttle-body).

After I replaced this so-called air-flap actuator, everything is back to normal (power is back and feels that the supercharger is working).

You may ask the mechanic to check if it is the same problem. Good luck !
