Recommendations for workshop that can do a pre-purchase check for Benz?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I am planning a purchase for an 07 e200k and will like to send the car for a inspection/check before purchase. The typical sta and Vicom check seems to be quite 'face value'.

Any recommendations for outside workshop that specialize in this form of inspection?

Thank you very much.

Automobile Association of Singapore.

Thanks Odessus. I assumed u are referring to the used car eval service used by AAS. May I ask if it is bcos there is a higher level of rigor in AAS tests?

if dealer keeps giving reasons not to go AA or refuses to go AA, should i walk away? i have read that AA inspections are really merciless

Isn't it obvious the truth is going to be ugly. Walk away from the deal. Many cars to chooses in the marketplace. Shoppers paradise.

Go to your usual workshop minimally to have an advise or 2. At least u gonna know what replacement parts are coming up since it's a 07 vehicle.

According to my Workshop guy who used to work In AA he told me AA is considered having the highest standard for inspection and they will go for full digital report their system are able to detect any irregularities even to the point of a 1mm dent

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

I did mine at AA recently two weeks back for my '06 c180. The dealer originally was quite hesitant. But eventually said that they will also accept AA report for contracting purposes (i.e., engine, gearbox, chassis in order for the deal to seal). Managed expectations also by saying that to be prepared that AA's report will be very long with alot of review points (which indeed it was so...).

Paid for the inspection fees about $155 (but strangely, my fren did her 2nd hand Audi A6 check for $123 about 1 month before me, dunno why...), anyway, it came with an official receipt issued by AA, so I din really quibble.

AA report is good. I have not done any prepurchase checks with STA / Vicom before, so I shan't comment on the two inspection centres. But AA report is very comprehensive and to the point. Which thereafter, the AA officer will run through with you and the dealer on the points / remarks in the report (do STA / Vicom do that, anybody?) and you can probably nego a little with the dealer to fix if they are nice. My dealer did and I must say I was happy with my purchase, of course without thinking of the profit margin they made out of me.  ;)

For e.g, AA report highlighted things like the rear fog light only had one side, to check if it is part of the car original specs or defect. They tested steering and it tilt to one side when running, indicating an alignment problem. My windscreen water dispenser also had problems. So my dealer fixed the alignment and dispenser problem before handling the car over. Age of tyres, conditions of brake pads, blah blah wear and tear stuff. All highlighted in AA report. The best thing was AA officer commented that the car did not show any signs of oil leak, which is quite common in conti cars they inspect, which elevated my mood immediately.  B)

Hence, three weeks into my C180, I must say I am quite satisfied with the car thus far.

Hope it helps your purchase!

And btw I always avoid TRACKED cars...the mileage fer these vehicles maybe low but its the abuse from high revvs and constant sudden braking that will coz wear n tear

With all due respect, I think it's more inexperienced, rash or reckless track drivers that will cause damage to the car. Sensible folks almost always stay within their own limitations as well as the limitations of the car they pilot. If you know the previous owner of a car that goes to track regularly, may not be such a bad thing  ;) Most that I know of are pampered. Hehe  :P
