"tuck" sound when engaging 1st to 2nd gear in the morning

Recommended Posts

hi everyone,

I been experiencing a "tuck" sound in the morning when it engages from 1st to 2nd gear. however there is no such issues for the rest of the day stopping and picking up speed in jams or traffic lights. Can this be due to the difference between engine/gearbox running from a cold start vs after a day of warming up?

I have heard  the following reason behind this...

1) This is due to the brake pads "sticking" to the rotor, this happens when the car is parked for some time

2) Same symptoms as Jap car with CVT transmission, after a cold start, the first transmission would usually experience this.

Is this a norm? or is this a concern I should take note of ?

thanks for the help. I am sibeh mountain tortoise when it comes to technical aspects of Mercs.

Done that during servicing, cost me $60.

Was told that if i dun change it, there are chances that the gears might not be able to engage at times.

Cannot engage gears at time can be a major problem...

thanks!

hi Guys,

just to update on this tread, hear from Jason-Chip Soon that  as my ride is a R Class, my gear shift is behind the steering wheel, hence it does not have a gear bushing. So will be visiting Chip Soon to do a diagnostic check on the gear box.
