Which type and what brand of engine oil is good for servicing?

Recommended Posts

can we do servicing on our own?

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

There is a nut at the bottom of the engine....normally size 14...open it and all the oil will flow out........

Once done... Tighten it back and top up the EO...

Shld only be done when engine is cool... Otherwise will/can burn your hand....

Spoon feeding teaches you nothing....but the shape of the spoon...

It's only 100°C.

Service manual actually recommends that the engine is warm before draining the oil. Not sure about the current mercs but there is a way of draining the oil through the dipstick with a handpump on the older models, designed so that you don't have to jack the car up to do an oil change.

When you change the oil filter remember to smear some oil on the rubber seal before screwing on the new filter.

I used to put the used oil back into the (now empty) new bottle, and pass it to a mechanic - apparently they sell the oil on to recyclers who make synthetic oil!

There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

This reminds me of my NS days.... I am a POL IC which deals with Engine Oil and Coolent for Tanks....haha Only waste oil and Oil filter can be sold at very low price....Waste oil $0.03/L Oil filter was $0.01 per kg....

anyway I was watching the workshop service my car the last time round and they use this small machine and attach to the engine to suck the waste oil out? am I right about this?

For those who intend to DIY, pls find where & how to dispose of the used oil before attempting. I had a neighbour who parked & drained his racing motorbike engine oil over a metal grill drain cover outside his house....NEA paid him a visit a few days later & summoned him to court. Apparently, they can trace the source of the oil when their drain sensors pick up unusual contaminants.

Agee with bro Jtang....so if you want to do it, get a pail that can hold at least 3.5L to be used to contain the discharged oil..... Later than use a funnel to pour back into the bottle.... Leak abit is ok.... But not too much.... Hahahahaha.....

It's 7 litres...need 2 pails. Even then, you cannot throw the oil in a container into the trash. Pls bring it to a car workshop & dispose it into their drum...ie if they allow.
