Petrol Kiosk Gripes

Hi Guys

i have to get this off my chest.

when you pull into a petrol kiosk to fill up, do you normally tell the uncle "full tank"? and do you notice that they will pump in more even after the full tank indicator on the pump has been activated so that the pump will show a round number (for.e.g $110 but they often overshoots so we get $100.02)

Don't they know that with store discount and card discount, the final amount will not be "round"? And since most of us pay by credit card, what's the problem with 'odd' amounts??

Finally, does any bro know if it will in fact be bad for the car if we pump in more petrol when it is full?

Thanks for allowing me to rant.

When they do that they also risk the tank overflowing and you'll have to get some water to wash off the petrol from your precious paintwork.

I've long decided that the instruction to the attendant should be to stop pumping once the auto cut off has been activated. So far this has worked well.

Or do as some other bros here practise - do your own refilling!

I do my own filling since many years ago, save all the troubles.

I think I am the weird one, I will try to round off the “Litre” numbers instead of “$” numbers.

My current car (non-Mar-See-Lee), if I fill it to the brim and park immediately after filling. I will get petro smell in the cabin the next morning.

I would prefer self-service!! There are cases that they damage the cover. Once this happens is heart pain to claim against them as they might lost their job!!

I only pump full tank the first 2 months after collected my new car to monitor the milleage. Subsequently, i will only pump $80. So i will just tell the attendant $80.00.

When your fuel needle reaching the 1/4 mark, go for refill at $80 you will still have your needle pointing at full tank mark.

Like that will never get overflow problem....

I worked briefly in a Lavender Street station in 1990. During my relatively short 3 weeks stay I witness many patterns “chut” by the pump attendants.

Overfilling is common, forgotten to close back the flap is common too, filled the wrong type of RON happens a few times in a week, body weight resting on the nozzle while filling and end of the shift extra patrol cap found on top of the pump… :woohoo:

On a side note about petrol filling, I usually press the button next to the cap after opening the cover & locking the car while filling up. This will allow the the cover to close fully by itself when the car is unlocked, otherwise you will need to press the cover to close it shut. You will have to remind the attendant not to forcibly close the cover.

prefer to self service. save all the potential nonsense the attendants may do.....as a kid, witnessed one such farker trying to pocket my dad's van petrol cap...... after being confronted by my dad.... claimed that he is helping him clean the cover....

I always wonder why sometimes my car cover can closed by itself, when i unlocked. (after refilling).

Hmmm.... will try yr method later...

Thanks

I also wondered the same thing. Just tried it and it works - quite a neat feature. Thanks jtang!

its true, some PAs are like need a 3rd leg to balance themselves hence leaning of customers car. (actually they are lazy)

but think of it, majority are OLD mans, who really want to work so not to aged at home bo liao, and also supportive of garment policy, older retirement. :P

PAs provide A service for customers for Filling up petrol, sometimes offer optional like cleaning windscreen or check engine oil, coolant or pump tires.

Well in SGP, we always want good service lor... :cheer:
