Just how secured is a Mercedes?

Have been driving up M'sia for god knows how long. While in the past I have been driving unpopular makes in MY i.e. VW and Audi so likelyhood of the cars stolen were relatively low, I'm just concerned how secured is a MB. I do know it has the engine immoblizer feature but I have been searching in the net on whether that is good enough.

We often read reports that SG cars are stolen in MY but little is said about the make, age and the security features they have. recently I read about a Civic Euro Type R being stolen in KL and afaik, Hondas have engine immobilisers too!

So how, cannot drive up MY anymore??? :(

I have never stopped over in JB' date=' usually I go straight up to Melaka or KL. JB is just like a cowboy town, way too much crime happening there![/quote']

I too avoid JB like the plague!

I have driven to Melaka in my C180 a few times over the past 2 years. I stay at a big reputable hotel on Makhota Parade. I remove all valuables from sight and park my car where it is clearly visible to hotel staff. It is parked head in, with wheels angled and steering lock applied. I believe doing these actions lessen the chances of the car being taken.Of course there are never any guarantees!

Sir, Mercs are RWD so u shld have parked reverse in instead! :)

I love Melaka, last year alone I was there like 3 times! Parking at the hotel is generally quite alright, just a bit more concerned when at the shopping malls and petrol stations!

Head in is to prevent ppl from driving away easily..

Whenever I park in Malaysia.. will go thru the same motion.. and will try to park at places where there are more human traffic.. apply steer wheel lock, all valuables are taken out of the car including cash card covers.. and even GPS holder... and pay some tips to the carpark attendent or hotel staff...

I'm more concerned about the car being towed away. If someone already has a key to drive away your car, I doubt parking head in will dissuade them!

Tow away cannot prevent, but by towing more hoo ha is made. That is why need to tip the hotel staff or carpark attendent. Also park with wheels turn and secure steering with the steering lock.

For years, I have using this for all my cars. Driving into M'sia? No fear!

If they are fast enough to put your ride into a container and drive it away, dun thing the can pickup gps signal inside the container.

Maybe the ride will appear in Pleasure Island and I can charge for services rendered....hehehe! :P

So far so lucky for me!

Same thing I dun stop in JB unless with JB frens.

Went up in my W124(a few times), C180ML(a few times), W211(2 times), W212(2 times), ML300 (1 time & counting :) )

Unker...you are wrong. Let me explain how this works.

When my car is parked in a spot in M'sia...basement carpark or outside, I will give a call to the call centre in S'pore to tell them to keep an eye on my car literally. After giving password & car details, they will return a call to me within a few secs to verify my location after they have tracked my car position. The way it works is...as soon as the car is moved by a mere 2m from the spot, it will activate the call centre immediately. Meanwhile, the call centerwill scramble a call to me within a few secs to verify whether the car has been moved by me or someone else. If it's an unauthorised use, they monitor the car movement & liase with the M'sian police to retrieve my car. They have a 100% retrieval success. The car is monitored way before it is loaded into a container. They will watch over the car for as long as I want till I call them again to cancel the monitor for a small fee $10.

Then u maybe get not the next insurance policy quote or u need to pay a very high insurance premium

Because there is a cap to how much we can claim. Losing a car is the last thing u wan to happen in Singapore

at the rate of rapid depreciation, sometimes i wish people will steal my car so i can claim insurance.

:P:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Doc,

Interesting!

How does the call centre gps signal system work?

Guess it's not by satellite cos in covered car park no satellite gps signal.

By cellular cum satellite?

It is in the company's policy not to reveal the technology and the location of the device that is implanted on your car.

Must be pretty high tech.....hehehehe! :P

Provided the car has a gps and navigation system?

If the car doesn't come with gps, they are unable to track it??

My ride e-class actually has an alarm. The mechanics jacked up my car to change my rims and the car was locked.

It gave out an alarm sound like what you find in most car alarms.

But I think a steering lock is a must in Malaysia. To fend off car thieves and robbers.

It's a secret technology...but I believe it's both GPS & GSM. Its my guess. But seriously, I remembered I once parked in a hotel at basement 3, they could actually track my car's location when I activated the overnight monitoring. Was really impressed.

There was another occasion when I forgot to deactivate the overnight monitoring when I drove off in a morning...I received a call from them in less than a min to confirm if the car had been stolen. It was really fast! Was given a warning about not deactivating it otherwise they will slap $10 penalty fee. So, whether the car is driven off or towed away, the car track will activate.

The device installed has GPS & GSM I think. The car need not have a GPS nav system to work in tandem as they are separate.

Singapore

Mr Yap...how are you? If you have read my link, it's an after market device that can fit on any car by this company called Cartrack Singapore.

Btw, is my SGMERC card ready? Been waiting for my replacement card for a long time.
