Emergency Key

Recently i realized i cannot unlock my car lock with the emergency key. I send it in to C&C and they managed to unlock it together with some tweaking of the door handle. However i was told i cannot lock it with the emergency key as it is designed to only unlock.

My car is a 3 months old 2011 model. On my previous older model, i can unlock and lock repeatedly with no problem. It served me well when key's battery is flat.

I would like to ask if this is a new design of the emergency key.

You didn't state which car you're driving but anyway, my face lifted W204 allows me to lock and unlock the car with the emergency key. My car is 2 months older than yours. Find it convenient when I need to leave the car for 5 mins. I can leave the key fob in the ignition with the engine and air-con turned on and still lock/unlock the car with the emergency key.

Your car comes with keyless entry?

Whoops. Sorry, didn't realize I typed in smart key. I don't have keyless entry installed. What I meant was the key fob.

You leave the car running but unattended?? A desperate thief can smash the window to unlock & drive away leh. Anyway, save the environment...switch it off :cheer:

Ok update: Turns out the mechnical lock system of the newer models are electronic. It can only be used for emergency purposes. It is linked to a special battery under the driver seat. It cannot be used to locked the car.

In Singapore should be fine. Don't do it often anyway. Only do it when I need to pop into a shop to grab something with the car parked right outside and if the weather is extremely hot! That's why planning to get Dr Hannson to do the remote start.
