Not to worry, this M271 kompressor engine and 5 speed gearbox have been around since the W203 and has proven to be reliable.

Both engines r good enough for spore roads. The 7-speed gears r too good to be used on spore roads.

Actually is an open secret in spore

My friend also a VW owner. He also sent his car back to workshop till he lost count and sell n switch to BMW.

Even VW workshop ppl also admit their 7- gears engine has problems one.
