Cranking noise from under carriage on C200 - different experiences with 2 workshops

Hello Bros,

Just wanna check if any of you guys have the same experience and offer some advice.

Since a few months, there is a weird cranking sound that seem to be coming from the under carriage but only heard when driving slowly over uneven surfaced road. when speed picks up, sound is gone. It actually sounded like some metal cranking noise. Especially significant when reversing slowly on uneven surfaces when parking on those open air public carparks.

And have 2 very different experience with 2 rather popular workshops. Went to MXX, after checking, technician said cranking sound could be due to this and that, and quoted $1800! On asking if he's sure that's the remedy, he said not sure! :( Also asked them to change one of the fused parking lamp. They went ahead to change one side without comparing the lighting with the other side. In the end, one side was significantly brighter than the other. Only realised when I drove back. My fault for not checking too on the spot. But overall, very disappointed with the service.

Went for second opinion at StarXXXXX. technician checked and susupected it's due to some cover at the undercarriage loosen due to wear and tear. Said he tighten back the bolt and said they would help intend the original clips to replace the worn out bolts during my next servicing. Also help me to check the parking lamp, change it and adjusted to make sure they are uniformly bright (took them quite a while to fix it) and when I ask them how much I should pay - they said "it's ok"! WOW, excellent service and I am seriously considering to sign up a service package with them. Hopefully they can help to solve the cranking problem but at least they dont assume and quote sky high prices.

i have visited many workshops... but am very comfortable with StarBlack... and have used them for repair etc but for oil change.. am still talking to them..... they dont offer Mobil 1 engine oil and i am abit sticky about that....

nonetheless... they use premium engine oil as well. SB has a good team, fair pricing, and my experience with them has been stellar... keep up the good work.. but offer Mobil 1 for my next oil change please
