My slightly two-month-old car's battery flat

I was overseas for three days. This morning, I found out my car's battery is flat. And my car is less than three months old. Unbelievable!!!

Just called Star Assist. I had the option of towing the car to the workshop or getting a mechanic to jump-start the car. I chose the latter as I needed the car. I hope it is a simple case of defective battery. Sigh....

Through this ordeal, I learnt an intelligent feature of my car. Though its battery is flat, it reserves just enough power for me to unlock the car. But when I tried to lock it, it won't work.

Sidetrack abit.....based on above incident.

Any bro here can advise:

1) Its possible to lock the car manually with key, without using the remote? i was thinking perhaps save some battery energy if can lock car manually with the key especially if one going for travel.

Have tried locking with key, but only the driver door will lock, other three doors wont lock.

How about lock the rest of the door except driver door from inside then use the spares key to lock it?

YES, have tried and it can be done. Only a bit lechey...

Question is, Does it "save" any battery energy?

Well before u lock yr driver door, disconnect one of the battery connector then manually lock it with yr spares key. I m sure this should work but whether u can crank yr car after reconnect the battery when u are back for holidays or not, i let u try it out :).

In my opinion, (touch wood) been driven kimchi, nippon, conti cars i dont hv this flat battery issue at all after leave it there for a few days. Probably due to Heng or Suay factors??

Dear all

I have a confession to make. The battery was flat because it was drained empty. It was a simple case of me forgetting to switch off the hazard lights. A fellow Merc owner saw me in the car park with Star Assist technician. He came over and told me he saw my hazard lights were on for the past two days. No wonder my battery went flat.

So now I have officially joined the league of kuku drivers. Ha...ha...

By the way, I learnt something from the technician this morning. I can lower all four windows from outside with my remote. I just have to position the remote at the door handle on the driver's side. There's this IR receiver. Point the remote at it and press the unlock button. All four windows will slide down. Similarly, if I press the lock button, the windows will slide up. Cool!

Another thing I learnt while I was driving to the office this morning. If the battery is weak, the "Hold" function will not work. It gave me a scare when I first discovered it. Thought the system went kaput. Thankfully, the "Hold" function returned after about half an hour later, by which time the car battery had fully charged, I think.

So happy that you won the Ipad2 & THE passport holder during AMG until you forgot to off hazard lights?? :high5:
