Hi,

i am thinking of getting this car. Can bros here share pros and cons?

Any reliability issues? it seems to be almost the same price as a S350. Any idea why?

What are the things to look out for when getting it used?

Very high litre cars usually have lower resale value becos people shun the high road tax & FC. That's why it's about the price of S350, which is more saleabe.

Totally agree. On second thought, it is best that you conduct a thorough checks on its electronics and mechanical parts.

True!! Suggest to yr company to purchase the shock absorber test machine. So that not like those oldies workshop still adopting "press & let go" technique to check for abnormailities!!

And the best preventive measure is to cater a few thousands budget and get it change. Alternatively, you may also want to check the car's servicing records and hope that the previous owner changed them before.

Never know if he/she might have change before their shelf life due to continuous driving on harsh road conditions.

the s500 is a wonderful car to drive.. especially on long drives all the way to thailand... as for resale value.. if you keep the car long enuf.. the depreciation is manageable.

My dad's W221 airmatic suspension also collapsed at the start of this year. Front right. Repair costs came up to almost 20+ k iirc. Luckily its just under 3 years so its covered.

But now, its back in at CnC again due to transmission problems. One of the valve spoilt, and there is no replacement part locally. It has been 3 weeks since, and still no news of the part available... Luckily they gave us a courtesy car

Actually some of my friends told me that the W220 and W221 are problematic cars and breaks down often. Problem seems to be a design issue? I am not too sure, but it seems to be quite true especially for my dad's car.
