Malaysia vs S'pore: Different servicing intervals

My Malaysian friend drives a C250. He told me the servicing interval is 12,000km.

How come the servicing interval for Singapore cars is 15,000km? Given the start-stop traffic condition here, our cars should have a shorter interval than Malaysia.

I wonder if what are the servicing intervals for MB cars in other countries like Indonesia and Thailand.

not true that in Malaysia less stop start traffic, you should try the office hours and raining jams..possibly they uses alot of high speed on NSHW too.

Though 15k km is the recommended interval in S'pore, in reality (for my case) the service indicator lighted up at about 12k km. Its all very intelligent as the data of your driving style & condition are all logged & computated to inform you that's it's time for service. The correct interval is really when the car tells you so, the 15k km is merely a rough guide.

Just to share a typical continental car servicing is around 20k - 25k. The service indicator is actually set my the workshop as a reminder. 12k servicing is really unnecessary and waste $$$$.

Doc,

u mean the service indicator lights up even b4 the intended 15k km servicing for ur ride?

For mine, the indicator lights up only when its abt 1000km more to the intended 15k km servicing.

i learnt from my friend, his BM 5 series, has a warning light dat engine oil is dirty n require servicing, even prior to the scheduled 15k km.

This is the confusing part..

to follow the OBD or the 15k mark?

Like I said earlier, the car is pretty intelligent, the service mileage interval varies form diff drivers & make. It logs the data of one's driving style & condtions..eg aggressive driving style (like me:becky:) or frequent stop/go (traffic jams/lights) will warrant shorter service interval. As for your 1000km above the 15k km mark, it shows the opposite of my driving style/conditions.

There's no hard & fast rule casted in stone that one must do the service at 15k km, just let the car tell you.:becky:

totally agree w u doc.. btw early congrats on being SM soon! :becky:

since our rides are fitted with sensors, make use of them! its also good to pop the hood and take a look see at the engine oil dipstick.

if the oil is still a nice golden brown and not too thick looking (flows down easily), you can still drive on for quite awhile.

usually when oil becomes thick or starts to change colour, that's a good sign that you can start to think about going for servicing.
