Hi Bros,

Just a question. Are our car keys under any sort of warranty? I was told by my SE that one key cost about $800+. What happens if key stops working few days or weeks after collection?

That key won't spoil so easily, and it certainly can be replaced if still under warranty, unless you damaged it. My W203 keys have lasted 8 years and still working, only the button area has cracked under constant flexing.

Be warned, press the button only with your thumb, not with your finger nails.

I believe it depends on how hard you bang the table. Ha...ha...

But seriously, if it even happens to me, I'll fight tooth and nail to get it replaced. Actually paid so much for the car, the least they can do is to replace any defective key within a reasonable period after car collection. What is a reasonable period? Maybe within a year?

The remote does not fail easily. it is electronics, either ok or NOT ok. So it is good for new car owners to test all the keys....different settings and functions.

If spoil due to electronics, than should be under warranty.

i had once left my remote in my jeans....went in the washer and out came a wet remote.

Wahlau.....quickly remove the batt and use hairdryer to cold blow for abt 10 mins.

Let it air dry further for 2 days....

Finally, test it and it works....lucky for me. Else swollen.

My insurance man from Chartis, autoplus plan has the car key covered under warranty.

Stated in black n white.

But never wish i have to do such claim anytime.

wow, meaning if the key is spoilt, they will replace a new one?

or does it even replace when u have lost? :)

I really cant be sure cos nobirdie tried out yet n post here.

Its all abt verbal confirmation n black n white writing on paper.

Who knows if they copy Aviva n void this clause, saying u never protect ur keys with LV pouch hence insurance voided!!

Don't get too paranoid over the keys. These keys are build to last as long as adequate care is given and the occasional drops are no problem. My keys have dropped countless times and it's still working for 8 years.

So enjoy the ride.
