Steptronic Gear Shift

Hi bros

Got a questions on our “steptronic” gear shift, the other day, while driving around 90kph, I wanted to overtake a car and decided to try the shift down method on our gear lever, on my previous ride, when I shift down , it will go to the next lower gear ie 4 or 3rd. But on my e200, when I did the left tap once , instead of going down to 4 or 3 it went all the way down to 1. I got a shock when the rpm went all up to 6K (hope the gear box wasn’t affected).

So, is this how we play with the “steptronic” or strictly use when the car starts from stationery and shift from 1 to D. Appreciate your valuable feedback.

Thanks

It should downshift by 1 if the RPM is low like 2000 "prior activating the left tap".

It will sometimes stay on current gear if the RMP is at sweet sport.

It will not downshift by 1 if the RPM is at 5000.

it depends on how you made the shift...

if you push left and held it at the end for more than required, it will downshift all the way to the next best ratio to keep you at maximum power band...

if you just push it just slightly left, it should downshift to the next gear...

gurus, please correct/advise...

As what i know ....

To protect the gear box, some hard down shift are not allow until your speed had drop to certain km/h at certain gear nos.

Yours are not a hard core car/gear box where you can down shift when taking corner or so, just some gentle down shift are allow.

thanks for all your feedback, better stick to "D" and save the gerr box from premature death.

cheers

agreed. wait for the Kompressor to kick in. there is a lag but when in quite power. can easily overtake at highway speeds. dont forget this w211 was for the autobhan cruising at 180 km/h
