Sideslip Failed!

Hey guys,

My w204 C180K is almost 3 years old and I brought it for inspection last Friday. Amazingly (for me i.e.) it failed inspection cos of side-slip. The inspector said I needed to have my wheel alignment done.

Since these are the final weeks before my warranty ends I decided to send the car in to CnC for service A a liitle earlier for them to correct the alignment problem.

The SA advised me that labour cost was expected to be $244 and if they needed to change the 4 bolts it would be $60 a bolt! That roughly translates to a $300-600 job.

Has anyone done this at a trustworthy place other than CnC where charges could be more reasonable?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

What is side slip? Is it same as wheel alignment out?

go to a reputable tyre shop like south asia tyre or stamford tyre and inform them that your car failed side slip test at inspection... typical alignment should not cost more than SGD$80 but many do give discounts by charging you anywhere from $40 upwards. You can try autobacs also..side slip tolerance is below 10

Now the SA tells me that since it is side slip test that failed then it is not necessary to do wheel alignment. A side slip adjustment will cost $84. I've asked CnC to proceed. Thanks for the replies guys.

It seems to me your SA is either ignorant about sideslip or he was too quick to quote you >$200 for the job initially. Luckily there's SGMERC where you can get quick answers.

At about 1pm, he said one thing. Less than an hour later, he changed his story. Hmm... does he know what he's doing?

Come back here & let us know yr outcome. I will choose sanjay route coz the amount is equal & less hassle. The bolt thingy someone has brought it up before the finding is adjustment of the bolt is bullshit!! Furthermore this workshop is well know in sg too. Is yr call.

Just to share as I have done much on Alignment.

1) Wheel alignment at 10K ??? I trust he is refering to tyre balancing at every 10k and rotation.

2) Side slip fail? it cost $25 or less to have a slip slip and adjust. Why need to go back CnC.

I normally do a slip slip before i go VICOM or if got mood, do a complete wheel alignment that cost $60 from a reputable shop and that includes a sideslip test. Have posted my view on similar topic months ago.

Complete computerise 4 wheel alignment is different from side slip test. But when you do wheel alignment, a reputable shop always include sideslip. (sideslip test is drive car slowly over two special steel plates on the ground

If remember correctly, sideslip limit is 5m/km means car go side way 5 m for every km. Maybe bro here can confirm if its 5m/km, cant remember liao.

3) My car alignment is totaly out and cnc denied. So had to do a complete car alignment outside and show cnc the Report before cnc finally decide to change all the camber and castor bolts for me. Took them two days!!!! which can be done in 1 day but no choice since under warranty.

They just informed me that the car is ready and I can go pick it. I had them do the side slip adjustment because the car's already there. Nex t time round I will do as Clear Vision recommended.

On a side note, Iw as also informed that my brake pads were down to 10% and my front discs need replacement - I was quite surprised by the latter! Since that is OT I will start another thread on it.

I will go and re-do the side slip inspection after I collect the car.
