Expensive Lemon on 4 Wheels

I experienced recently with the Mercedes-Benz we bought in July last year. The car stalled within six months of us taking possession of it. We were told that it was a software problem and the car was re-programmed.

In June, my family decided to go on a driving holiday to Malaysia.

We sent the car to Cycle & Carriage here for further checks. Like Ms Ng, Cycle & Carriage refused our request for a replacement, claiming that such problems were repairable and did not warrant a replacement.

WTF! After driving it for 1 year Jul '10 - June '11 and a possible faulty fuel pump after being replaced wanna have a new car replacement???????

Maybe I should have refuse to take delivery of my ride and ask for a new replacement when they delivered my car with a faulty DRL......muahahaha!

I had a brand new A4 2.0 TFSI Quattro for 4 months last year

"Fast car" & good handling but I came back to a MB.

IMHO After so many cars & MBs still find MB has this "refinement" over others.

Good choice & timing with the FL W204! :thumb:

You will enjoy your 1st conti ride!

What do you mean by "driveability"? I'm driving a Mazda 3 currently and I dare say that the handling is very close to that of a stock 318i or 320i, which are famously known for their handling abilities. I've test driven both the 318i and 320i and the SE was explaining to me how good they were in terms of handling and honestly, I wasn't blown away at all. On the other hand, I felt the W204 was lacking in road feel when I tested it. However, I felt that the A4 (when in Sports mode) was a fantastic driving machine. Still, I chose the W204 in the end. :becky:

Well, I was told that Mazda has the best handing among the Japs. I cannot comment on the comparisan to a 3 series as I have never owned a Mazda 3 before. However, I switched from a 320i to a C180K and I would say that the 320i still wins in the handling of the car. Both cars are stock and I believe the handling for the C180K can be improved with upgraded suspension system. Again I cannot comment on A4 cos I have never driven in one.

Unker I agreed with you...I think Louisa Lee (Madam) is talking NUTS (C--K)...maybe she should drive her car into the sea and claim total lost from Chartis...within one year the insurance company will give a replacement... :pound: :bounce:

My car will be coming mid Oct and I hope it won't be a lemon. All these stories are waning my confidence on choosing a Merc as my first conti. Having a commanding premium over Asian cars, I would expect contis to have the same, if not higher, levels of reliability. A friend of mine drove a new Golf TSI in the UK recently and it stalled barely into his week with the car. VW claimed that there was a problem in the TSI engine. I keeping my fingers crossed.

Previous Golf GT or GTI re famous fr their gearbox failure or engine pb where I was told by e workshop n dealers I knw. :becky:

Bt much sayg, it all voiced dwn to individual Heng or sway lor!

IIRC the mechatronic failure and mainly the TSI models.

Some called it the Flash of Death!

many owners went banged table and asked for extended warranty.

Like me also sway lor!

Brand new PI Q5 reverse up slope or too quickly - Instrument cluster flash

"No reverse gear!" and car cannot reverse anymore.

Every time it happened, gotto switch off engine, restart, then OK!

Brand new A4 rear right side suspension go loud KLUMP sound when go over mscp hump. Complained to SE - No slot have to wait 2 weeks! KNN!!!

Marcili arh!!! Boh ta chi leh!!!!!! :pound:

I'm not too well-versed in the american lemon law (being born and bred in SG), so I looked it up, and found that the common definition of "lemons" are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemon_(automobile)

Consumer protection legislation typically labels vehicles as "lemons" if the same problem recurs despite multiple repair attempts (such as three times in a row over a short period, where previous attempts have not fixed the problem) or where defects have caused a new vehicle to be out of service for a prolonged period (typically thirty days or longer) for repairs.

I fail to see how both cases mentioned in the ST so far, can be classified as lemons, and applicable for a direct 1-to-1 replacement. Doesn't seem quite reasonable, or am I missing something?
