Running in period (1st 1500km)

Guest skid

Recommended Posts

Hi, would like to do a survey on how you drive during the 1st 1500km period.

Do you follow the owners' manual recommendation? Or you have your own way of doing it?

thanks for all your responses! :becky:

This is what I do:

1) Dun over REV - try to maintain below 3000rpm

2) Drive at varies speed. Avoid driving constant speed for too long a duration

3) Avoid speed above 100km/hr

4)

5)

6)

The rest of the Bros please edit and add on...:becky:

Happy Running In...:bounce:

Factory run in is on the bench. Bench run in is different from actual road run in as it doesn't involve the tranny & other movable parts.

Drive below 3000 rpm will do even is 100 km/h. Usually hit 1000 km then is consider "run-in" but if u can't wait then go round KL twice will score around 1200km. If the manual say the engine is run-in then dont bother just drive it hard. But being Singaporean then drive till u hit 1000 km before drive it hard.

I tried to follow the recommendations, but it's hard. There seems to be a magnet on the accelerator that "glues" my right foot to the floorboard....ha...ha...

Hi Skid,

it is still safer to run-in, drive around 100 to 120km still ok but so long don't rev above 4000rpm............

* after run in then go NSH for a drive plus followed by Sepang..............

cheers

thanks for all the replies bros! only had my ride for a week and traffic conditions not very good recently. i've always believed in driving gently for the 1st 15min (engine fully warmed up) then after that drive the car under various rpm and speed (clear carbon)

I managed to hit slightly above 4K RPM, due to traffic. The stiff accelerator is something to get used to. Overall, my driving experience has been great. It would be perfect if the damn COMMAND navigator works as well as my Garmin. Meeting my SE tmr. See what he says.

I've just poured in a bottle of engine oil treatment (made in USA) that claims to be able to reduce friction, wear and temperature which in turn improve performance and FC.

Hopefully there is some significant difference.

Read your owner manual and it will tell U how to "drive your car" in the initial "run in period"

MB unlike cars like Lambo after tested on the assembly line, they bring the car to the road.

Unlike "years ago" machining of especially engine parts are not held to a very tight tolerances in the absence of CNC machining equipment.

Still it takes time for the mechanical parts like piston rings, valves, camshafts etc to sit in.

Off course U can even WOT your brand new ride and nothing will be felt even if U have more initial wear during this run-in period than necessary.

I guess the choice is yours.

For me I still runs in my car according to the recommendations in the owner manual.

What I do for my previous new car was same as some of the bros in various forum does. Almost same as Doc Hannson. :becky:

I always try to do it before 50km mileage.

I do a few short burst of acceleration to help to seat the piston rings. normally with 2nd gear and drag to red-line.

Cool down for awhile, then do a medium to high RPM. few burst of medium to high RPM. Change oil and filters after 500 km as it will have metal particles by that time.

Just my 0.005 cents..

Regards,

Ct
